The demographic problem is a hot topic in western media, especially since the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the world trade center. But the discussion about the demographic concerns shifted into a debate about Islam and Islamic immigration. New terms appeared such as Eurabia, and Islamophobia. These terms are associated, or used by people contributed to the hate industry. In this thread, I will discuss some views expressed by Mark Steyn, a Canadian anti-Islam author, cultural commentator that lives between Canada and the United States. Mark Steyn wrote many books in many fields including Islam, the environment and different cultural matters. I appreciate Mark Steyn's writings, his elegant style, and his use of many slang, informal terms in his writings. However, it doesn't mean I agree with his views. We should take that as a fact, truth is always inconvenient. Many Conservative writers, Mark Styen included, are promoting that the Western world as we know it will suffer during the 21 century, and many European countries will disappear due to low birth rates. In the period (1970-2000), the western countries' share of the world population declined from 30% to 20%. Meanwhile, the Muslims share increased from 15% to 20%. In the year 1970, developed nations are 30% of the world population compared to 15% for the Muslims, double the size. In the year 2020, it was a parity of 20%. What about the year 2020? According to Steyn, the key factors for Europea to become a reality are: 1- Demographic decline. 2- The unsuitability of the advanced Western social-democratic state. 3- Civilizational exhaustion. Demography that Mark Steyn describes as the most obvious symptoms of the Civilizational exhaustion could work both ways. I mean, we read all this writing about downsizing the world population to 500 million, and you realize immediately that it is used for political purposes. However, Mark never touches base talking about these theories that some describe them as a conspiracy. Under such theories, countries in Europe will disappear. They are already bleeding their population because of the low birth rate, to lose more to some group of maniacs trying to spread fear and panic. People responsible for the Georgia Guide-stones never explain how is a world population of 500 million will be achieved. Can't blame conservative Christians to believe that a group of people will be chosen to survive the judgement day, while the others will not regardless of their good deeds. Now, we do need to look back at the history of Europe and the west in general to find answers to reveal the demographic mystery. Many factors contribute to the European population downsize, which is accumulative, not just happen between day and night. First, the black death in the 14th century claimed over a third of the European population. Second, Continuous bloody wars claimed whatever survives of the black death. Third, the Catholic Church contributes to the spreading of fear and terror. Fourth, population numbers start to recover when WW1 happened followed by epidemic Spanish flu. Both combined claimed an average of 150 million of the world population. Fifth, WW2 claimed 50 million victims mostly in countries in Europe and Asia. Demographics is related to the way people think about family, marriage and parenting, not limited by geographic boundaries. Western Civilizational exhausted because their view of these values is suffering fundamental imbalances: Western citizens with a busy lifestyle can't find time to think about getting married and family, Woman's looking to establish a career view of children as a barrier. Another important factor in demographic bleeding of western civilization is the spreading of improper sexual orientations such as gays, lesbians and Surrogacy. Western civilization is not civilized, so it becomes exhausted. All of that isn't related to Islamic or Mexican immigration. You know, someone somewhere will find something to hang out all of the failures and disappointments and to make money from it, Islamic immigration, Mexican immigration even no immigration at all. End
Admittedly it's been several years since I've read America Alone, but it seems like it still holds up, and we're more or less on course for Steyn's future.
Let's say Mark is right in his views, who is guilty is that? What hold white women from having babies to reverse the demographic factor? Mark talking about what he thinks it is a problem but never recommend a reasonable solution.
Not reading any book written by someone with name that sounds like it may be mistakenly pronounced as “Stain” likewise names that sound similar to: “Buttygay, “Buttyfudge, “Swallowswell”, or is drunk Speaker of House name like “Tip” or the Speaker looks like he/she may be one of family members of “The Munsters” or The Addams family or has name similar to “shifty”
I don't think it's a matter of some individual being responsible, I think it's a matter of social forces when they meet the level of development we're at. Fertility is even lower in Japan, a non-Western country that's not influenced by immigration. So add industrial society plus educated female workforce with some reasonable equality between the sexes, and you get low fertility. Meanwhile Muslim society isn't very industrial, not interested in educating women by and large, and has no problem with filling the empty schools in Europe with their own children.
Islamic Terror and Islamophobia is a kenard. Its a big scary (read: shiny) distraction from advancing our civilization. Consider how much money (read: resources) we've wasted fighting in the ME since 2001, and what we got for it vs what we could've done with it instead.
I agree with you, but not all the way. Woman education isn't a barrier to establish a family. The problem is that Western civilization exhausted, family and moral values are weakened through promoting homosexuality and similar stuff.
Family values have been weakened by our economic values. By using the term “promoted”, do you mean a rise in station? As in Homosexuals have been “promoted” to the status of human by law? Granted a bit different than Blacks being “promoted” to human from property. Those examples would be considered a decline in Western Values? If so, please read our founding papers.
