Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will put the Green New Deal to a vote on Tuesday in a move that will force Democrats to take an official stand on the measure and thus pit the party’s moderates against its progressive wing.

    J. Scott Jennings, McConnell’s former campaign adviser, said the Green New Deal is dividing Democrats, but that moderates are afraid to speak out because the party’s base “is demanding this sort of extremely out-of-the-mainstream stuff.”

By contrast, said Republican political consultant Joseph Pinion, the Green New Deal has united Republicans – both Trumpers and never-Trumpers alike – “in the idea that the policies of a Green New Deal would be disastrous for America.”

The New York Times reports that most Democrats will vote present on Tuesday because the terms of the resolution have not been fully flushed out or discussed among the party.

The actual reason democrats in congress will not vote Yea but rather only Present is because even they know this ridiculous bill is, yet many of them endorse it.

Just to refresh everyone's memory I have included a copy of AOC's GNDeal. This is the version she pulled from her website before Markey helped her draft it into a House bill she was not capable of writing on her own.

LOL... what a tool... what exactly ARE they voting on?? Some loose resolution??

This vote is no biggie, as it wouldn't pass anyway. But it's out there when the D's take the Senate back in 2020. At that point, they'll have to come up with specific proposals or it won't go anywhere then.

I like the bones of what Lamar Alexander has suggested. That should be explored more. Of course, he's only willing to indicate there's a climate issue since he won't be running in 2020.

Mitch REALLY has his eye on the ball, doesn't he...

I am all for slowing pollution and making the environment cleaner. However, the Green Deal is equivalent to cutting off a person's arm because they got a sliver in their finger.

Is that all you got? Ad-hominem attacks?

You have no idea what I read or what sources I use. In fact, you know nothing about me. But if all you can come up with is personal attacks, it kind of implies the type of person you are.....one easily ignored.

It is meant to do exactly what you don't want, to put AOC and her socialist bill on RECORD.

AOC is a dangerous clown. Mitch is just protecting you from yourselves.

Voting "Present" will not be putting anybody on the RECORD... it's a good political move, IMHO

The day I need Mitch McConnell to protect me from anything, I'll let both of you know...

Who is going to protect us from Mitch?? Hope it's the good residents of Kentucky in 2020...

    I suggest YOU read it.

"Green New Deal also calls for an upgrade to the basic economic securities enjoyed by all people in the US to ensure everybody benefits from the newly created wealth. It guarantees to everyone:

    • A job with family-sustaining wages, family and medical leave, vacations, and retirement security
    • High-quality education, including higher education and trade schools
    • High-quality health care
    • Clean air and water
    • Healthy food
    • Safe, affordable, adequate housing
    • An economic environment free of monopolies
    • Economic security to all who are unable or unwilling to work"
    Yea, Utopia at last!

Yep...gotta love the people that bully others because they do not conform to their way of thinking. "If you do not conform to my way of thinking, then you are just uninformed and are stupid to believe sources I do not approve of"

It is not a law at this time, but it is proposed law: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-resolution/109/text

It has been referred to the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources and proposes massive environmental and economic changes be made within the next 10 years. Maybe you should read the bill.

Every single point you posted except the last one is admirable. Something all Americans should hope their fellow citizen can enjoy. When did the Republican Party become such anti everything?

I agree 100%. However, the methods used to reach these goals are very important. At this point in history, these goals will not be achieved overnight and reaching these goals will be at the expense of other things. That list is similar to a Miss America candidate saying that she will fight for "World Peace". It is great concept on paper, but seldom provides any practical solutions to get there.

I don't believe Republicans are anti everything. I can't speak for everyone but I'm fairly certain most of us are just getting tired of do nothing obstructionists. Maybe we are also realists. AOC's plan can't work because the US can't afford it. It also is not the noble plan radical libs think it is. It is a roadmap for socialism. That is not a goal any American should be endorsing, but some are, so I and hopefully most republicans are against it and will fight to see that it never happens here. Dems are welcome to join us.

I really don’t think any of you even really know what socialism is. Mitch McConnell alone is more obstructionist than the entire democrat party could ever dream of.

Are you willing to put your money where your mouth is and stop using fossil fuels, air conditioning, eating meat, etc? Or is that some you just want everyone else to do except you?

You do though, right? If so, tell me why it is right for this country or any developed country. Show me facts that it has worked, ever.

How about how quickly all the major Democrat Presidential Candidates endorsed this nonsense?
