What don't you understand about this from the linked article in your OP?

" Is McDonald’s McDouble cheeseburger (two patties, one slice of cheese, costs about $1) the “cheapest, most nutritious and bountiful food that has ever existed in human history”?

It would appear that way, according to arguments explained by New York Post columnist Kyle Smith."

When I see someone hungry on the street, I buy them a McD double meal instead of taking them to a veggie restaurant. Fills them up, makes them and me a bit happier.
Only the ritzy people can afford ritzy foods. Most people just want to fill their tummies.

Whilst that is incredibly kind of you, I would still hardly call it a "well balanced meal for $1".

The premise that the article cited in the OP was that a McDouble was somehow not only a bargain, but a veritable bounty of healthy nutrition.

I am sure those who are starving are appreciative of a warm meal, but let's be serious here. It is (*)(*)(*)(*) food.

I "Liked" your comment because of the calcium statement - few people seem to realize that we have more than rnough - perhaps too much - calcium in our diets. In fact, too much calcium actually "leeches" other important minerals from your bones, reducing the amount of bone-making material available.

McD's IS meat, however, even though it's pumped full of hormones, pesticides, herbicides, and the plastics the patties are heated on.

    So is it "healthy?"

    Hell no!

But it's just as healthy as the (*)(*)(*)(*) that people usually buy at the grocery store.

Compared to NO FOOD, a McDouble is loaded with nutrition.

The premise in the OP was that a McDouble was a "well balanced meal". Those were not my words.

I simply am pointing out, with factual citations, that that clearly is not the case. It is a fat and salt laden wad of (*)(*)(*)(*).

Now if someone is starving, I certainly advocate them eating. That is the generally accepted way to combat being hungry, and has been for a while now.. However, the claim that a McDouble is somehow a healthy alternative to healthy food seems to be a bit inaccurate.

Like I said, its a healthy alternative to starvation. Salt is necessary to sustain life.

And like I said, that was not the original premise being laid out in the OP.

Salt is necessary to sustain life, and too much of it causes a plethora of health problems.

    HORRIBLE COMMENT!

I'm clearly showing that Beck's info is untrue, yet you perversely choose to be wrong.

The peanuts is only one of hundreds of possible examples.

Too little salt and you'll die. Too much only affects people with underlying health problems. Not everybody suffers ill effects from eating a lot of salt.

Yes, and shockingly a $1 McDouble is still not a "well balanced meal".

Clearly the premise laid out int he OP is incorrect, and has been demonstrated to be incorrect.

    FYI, it's not Becks study.

Yes, of course poor people have choices... but its kinda silly to think they'd chose peanuts over a double cheeseburger.

The hummus recipe I gave is for people unsure of whether they like hummus, not for the poor.

The beauty of spices is they're not necessary, they can be omitted at the will of the cook. If you've ever cooked a meal in your life, you'd know that. Even then, having spices pre-ground in your pantry costs all of $20, and guess what? They'll last a year and can turn the same staple ingredients into a different dish each day for five days. The only reason I've gone through two bottles of cumin in the past year is because I mixed up a batch of my all-purpose spice.

You can take the chickpeas and blend them with water, smooth peanut butter, and pepper and make a reasonable facsimile of hummus, it is not authentic, but it is still hummus, and still surprisingly good. The extra salt in peanut butter will produce a more rounded flavor. This recipe is wholesome, free of saturated fat, and is cheap, at about twenty cents a serving.

I call em like I see em.

That's the ONLY time a poor person should choose McDonald's over something else, is if they have no other recourse.

It is also not necessary to fill the stomach to satiate the feeling of hunger. I had a hunger pang, and I ate a bowl of cereal and drank water, the pang is gone. That was a trick my boyfriend taught me. Your body will get the nutrients it needs but will still have a feeling of being hungry for ten minutes before your stomach will fully communicate that there is no further need for food at the present time.

Salt, especially iodized salt, is important to a well-balanced diet, but the average American diet is too salt-heavy. Overuse of salt leads directly to health problems, especially kidney problems. Salt is not as important as calcium, protein, or even good fats.in dietary terms.

    I said "Beck's INFO"!!

He is responsible for his website and his show.

I clearly show that he lied to you, but you don't care.

    That's pathetic.

    Thx for being honest.

You know what this means don't you? Unlike people who eat hummus, you won't live forever. ;)

Of course it's possible. There are just many people who are too lazy to do it.. You can get, for extremely cheap, huge bags of rice, oats etc. which provide the filler for your belly, plus a portion of your calories. You can get noodles and sauce for extremely cheap. There are loads of things that can give you extra calories. For your protein, you can get a can of tuna for like 50 cents, if you buy the cheap store brand. That gives you like double the protein that your double cheeseburger has. You can get a huge bucket of daily multivitamins, which provide you your daily nutrition for pennies.

Now some of these things cost more than a dollar, but you're not eating them all at once. You draw from them day after day.. The actual portion you need of everything combined for just a meal doesn't add up to the dollar.

Plus, you can work the sales, the buy one get one offers, the night-time expiring food shop, and go to many supermarkets where different things are cheaper at different places. Then you have to cook.

So it's MUCH MORE work.. A double cheeseburger is the best source of lazy calorie acquisition. It's not the only way. Smart shopping and doing a bit of work will certainly give you more sustenance for your buck. But you do need a few dollars to get started. You can't start this lifestyle on only a buck. But once you're up and running, you are getting far better value than double-cheeseburgers. If you're lucky enough to have more funds to start, you can do even better value with bulk purchases.

McDonald's is great for an occasional treat. If I went there, or had kids and brought them, I wouldn't even require the apple substitution.. Just cram all the calories you can. A nice escape from having to eat healthy. Like Friday nights or something.

But you can't live off the (*)(*)(*)(*).

And that's not true about the first lady's accomplishments. She also gives rich yuppies the critical information about what expensive new dress they should buy to wear to the Grammy's.

Where'd you get that stat from? Did a study confirm it or do people just like to say it?

Instead of discussing Glen Beck, we could, instead, discuss the nutritional value of a double burger, as well as the fact that a burger of this size sates most appetites.
    Right?

Hey, I love hummus, but I won't deny anyone a burger. You can eat both, in moderation.
What I have a beef with ( no pun intended) is that some people are suggesting that people are too stupid to make their own choices. Most don't make decisions based on nutritional values but convenience.
A good, home made hummus takes time. A trip to McD's one the way to somewhere...very convenient.
I often ask people why they buy canned soups, Ramen Noodles, packaged Mac'n Cheese, and the answer I hear most often is that "the kids can feed themselves"....meaning, no having to get up from the couch to fix a healthy meal.
Many communities offer free produce during the growing season. Much of it gets wasted simply because one has to prepare fresh produce.
I am all for offering and educating, making space available for community gardens and so on, but how do we get people off the couch? It will certainly take more than one administration, one generation and lots of patience and prodding to get people off their bad habits.
We can't force or legislate common sense.

Sorry, I am a bit wordy today, but I'll get off my high horse now.
