The individual is prior to any experience whatsoever. If there is a world external to subjective experience, an objective reality, then we're ill-equipped to know it. I'm not saying that we should live without values or not value society/others in our experience - just that we should pursue our own ends. Yours lead you in the direction of family and society, those are some pretty cool values, but that's not the only way of doing things. There are no "correct" goals or values in life, it's all in the eye of the beholder. Values and ambitions are like art.
