Minnesota has long been Democrat country-even as surrounding states went red.

With Top Dems promising to shut down mining in the state-its driving unions and voters elsewhere-even to Trump.

Trump has put other Midwestern states in play and perhaps MN will follow.

 

Trump will forever be associated with the Great Toilet Paper Recession of 2020. Talk to those people in about 2 months.

 

Those blue collar workers will still want industry and their jobs in 2 months.

EVERY dem will close them down.

From what I have briefly read, the deposits of nickel and copper are in very low concentrations. They also have titanium in that area.

 

Mainly due to Minneapolis, and to a lesser extent Duluth.

These cold and far north states don't really have much going on, so most of the population is very concentrated into small city areas, rather than rural areas. Even though these states have low population density statistics averaged over the entire state.

Also, if you look at traditional industries, it was mainly mining and logging that dominated the state economy, rather than farming. So that very much affected the political tradition as well. The northern half of the state is too cold and has hard soil and isn't very good for farming. Traditional farming was done by small scale farmers and was mostly for self-reliance, so these farmers living in isolated areas were not as well organized as the union workers, who were concentrated exporting timber and ore from the state at port cities.

A quick check on google shows the average miners salary nation wide as around 52K/year.

 

The southern part of the state might as well be Iowa or Nebraska-mostly agriculture.

Up north there is still a healthy logging industry.

They still are a major producer of iron ore-which seems like it would be of strategic interest.
