I am really disappointed at the blatant display of bitterness, deep-seated hatred and a total lack of compassion and sympathy by fellow Australians on this forum who seem to have despicable attitudes towards everyone who seems on the surface to have done something wrong. The problems that are prevalent in the indiginous socio-economic areas have been prevalent for decades, but varying from time to time, depending on what the Government of the day decides to do. Unfortunately, I feel that in some areas, nothing can be done. Alcohol abuse, child abuse, domestic violence, excessive gambling, crime and unemployment will always be with us, and nothing will ever change. The softly, softly approach has been with us for some 30 years now, ever since the bureacrats decided that rather than punish criminals, we should rehabilitate them. If there is no punishment for crime, or if the punishment is soft, then crime will continue. If our Governments continue to allow excessive supplies of alcohol and gambling to erode our society, all of us will suffer. Of course, the taxes received from liquor sales and gambling obviously provide much revenue for our Governments. In Qld, because the domestic violence laws are so tight, Police look for ways to avoid arrests, because they are under-manned, overworked, underpaid, and the paperwork for a dv arrest extends to many hours, some of which are done as "voluntary unpaid overtime" simply to catch up. Hence the high resignation rate amongst Police. These are problems which will never change, as it comes back to the almight dollar. Even development in Qld has slowed dramatically. Erect a car-port and it costs $4K...plus $2K in Local Government Fees which are paid to "Certifiers". Attempt to build a carwash and it will cost you $400K in Local Government Infrastructural Fees. Rent industrial premises for the purposes of starting up a "Learn How To Pole-Dance Club" and it will cost you $20K in Local Government Infrastructure Fees just for putting up two poles. These are all problems that wont go away because no-one is about to do a U-turn... Sorry for the rant, but the fishings been crook lately..... Feel free to post if you wish....
Sorry, forgot to mention "schoolies week" This is an absolute disgrace, covered up by the bureucrats because of the money which is brought into the community. The Chamber Of Commerce love it, and the authorities water down all the problems which are cause by thousands of apprentice alcoholics and sex-addicts, plus the odd drug user, and not forgetting of course the many, many "toolies" (slightly older schoolies preying on the poor defenceless kiddies)... Many premises are trashed during this week of mayhem, and accomodation is only given if visitors identified as schoolies pay huge bonds. Some premises refuse point blank to grant accomodation to schoolies. Police baby-sit thousands of these brats every year, and get no thanks, only abuse, and the kids have a ball...the problem is that their behaviour is reinforced as being normal, and is partly the reason why children grow up with no respect for authority. These "kids" are the alcoholics and wife bashers of tomorrow.... PS: I live on the Gold Coast and see this every year....
I have to agree magoo, what is wrong with their parents? My daughter and her friends went to the Entrance. She and 3 friends booked a room by the beach and spent a week swimming, sun baking and shopping. Now I know a few of youi are going to say sure, do you really know what they got up to, no, I trust my daughter. I know they would have gone to bars and clubs, der I'm not stupid. But the same incentive to drink, screw, take drugs etc is not there. Unfortunately they all go to play in magoos back yard. It is suppose to be a wind down after that last hectic year, not a contest to see who can get the drunkest, laid the most, or off their face the most.
No point. Just jumping at a chance to post my favourite band, while at the same time bumping your thread. Settle petal.
Re the OP, when we mention "aborigines", we are really discussing a large variety of distinct groups, eg. a Cape York Aborigine is typically a different type of person to a Central Australian one. It would be easy to go on for ages, describing differing cultures, conditions, etc., but suffice it to say, there isn`t any "one size fits all" solution. As I see it, the most general problem is a mindset of despair, and hopelessness. Traditionally, Aborigines posessed a very high degree of mind control over physical hardship, the flip side to this, is that this asset can also mainfest itself in a negative way. Their traditional life style of living closely within a group of extended family / associated group members, certainly magnifies the effect of negative behaviour and attitude among the group. This is hard on the kids who are too regularly exposed to negative effects during their upbringing, thereby conditioning the children to the acceptance of negativity. Aborigines, generally are some of the most personable people on the planet, they are highly spiritual by nature, and have a hilarious sense of humor. Perhaps we could work on lifting the positives, while using some tough love against the negatives?
No wurries mayte..I didnt recognize the band...just glad its not playing that hip-hop garbage...(aka poetry with drums)...
Is that you? Or an illustration of your distaste of hip hop? Personally I enjoy Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Corrs, Phil Collins, Billy Joel, and a few others that seem to have retired...
I know what you mean magoo. We just put up a carport, the amount and cost of the bureaucratic bullsh*t we had to go through was farken absurd!! I couldn't believe the number of forms we had to fill out and the amount of other documentation we had to provide to acompany the piles of forms. Then we had to pay $930 to someone to approve it all. I built one 25 years ago, not a bought one but a carport that I constructed myself, did it all legal and everything and didn't have to go through anything like what you have to do today. I filled out one form which was just basic info, name address etc and provided a drawing that I did myself. I paid $95 'inspection fee' when I was finished. Since then State and local governments have lost the plot, they are drowning us in oceans of absurd and unnecessary rules and regulations.
Well the goverment needs to get money in so that they can waste in on stupid "green" scams and to hand out to welfare dependent abos.
Only ni%^$rs and wiggers are into that stuff, you know...those with iq's lower than the waistband on their sagging pants.
All hip hop "artists" should be piled onto a slow boat to China and made to listen to Mariah Carey for the whole trip........or maybe Bob Katter singing "The Cunamulla Fella"
Bob Katter, you cruel man, no body, not even hip hop artists deserve that. I watched his parties launch on the news the other night. How did they stop from laughing. Science has dark matter Politics has Katter matter I have, doesn't matter
Was it on the ABC? Trained seals clapping at que`d PC Jokes, barely disguising the disappointment and the futility of the lives of the "ABC, PC, morally constipated" audience?
An illustration of my distaste of hip hop. I'm more of a Zappa, Dream Theater, Floyd, Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, TISM, Stones, Doors, Hendrix, Sonic Youth, Rage against The Machine, Miles Davis fan.
