This brings us back to the statement that getting ID is easy and cheap. I'd predict you won't be turning many voters away. And if you do, do you really want someone so incompetent that they can't acquire id to impacting how our government functions?

Buying gas would not apply because there are other methods of transportation.

    Simple question.
Would you feel it is a poll tax if people had to pay to register? If yes, how can you say it isn’t a poll tax if someone has to pay for an item to register?

You have just moved the fee but it is still required.

Yes, like the gas or food I mentioned. You're not going to magically transport to the voting booth. You'll need something (food, gas) to get you there. You probably aren't allowed to vote naked either. Clothing costs?
When I'd get worried? Suppose they come up with a super duper ID that costs $20K, required in order to vote.
I suppose at that point, I'd be concerned with a legal term of art called, "undue burden".

It doesn’t matter if that fee is $1.00. It is still a poll tax

Now you are throwing in undue burden in attempts to move the goal posts...

The opposite. I'm trying to find common ground with your position.
EDIT: I've argued that something that is simply a cost of voting is NOT a poll tax. Requiring that you have clothes on is not a poll tax. A poll tax is a poll tax. And still, I'll acknowledge that an undue burden can be thrown in your way. Suppose you are required to wear something that costs $1 million on so that you can vote? Then you can start talking about undue burden. $20 to buy an ID is not that.

For some people $20.00 is though — I fully support a national voter ID that is automatically issued and is no cost but just adding hurdles for the sake of adding them (ie no Sunday voting, limiting voting locations, no same day registration, excessive lines, etc) is just blatantly an attempt to disenfranchise voters.

I think elections should be held on national two day holidays (some people have to work ie medical staff: so, 2 days). Voting places should be similar to how we elect Congressional reps.: by population. I've read that some places have what should be impermissible long lines that disenfranchise voters.

Absolutely. This makes too much sense though so the politicians will never allow it.

Asked about this and found, "This is no longer a Black and White World. The term "white" is inaccurate labeling of many population groups. The ethnic grouping of the people of Syria are Arab 90.3%, Kurds, Armenians, and other 9.7%. The passe black and white are terms used in the last and prior centuries."
I have to agree. When olive skinned Mediterranean people, such as Sephardic Jew Hank Azaria, are simply referred to as "white" we know this is not even close to an accurate way to describe people anymore.
