That's not environmental stupidity, it's the basics of how schools are funded. Brown lawns, property values decrease. Property values decrease, property taxes go down. That means less money for schools. So, it's really just the local government trying to get as much money as possible from then.

Oh wow! The Liberal response to anyone questioning government interference with individual rights.

    Ya gotta love it.

They're in an environmental crisis! Can't they just, for once, use common sense? :steamed:

I'm not a liberal. I'm a moderate with collective anarchist leanings. And they are using common sense, get through one disaster, try not to go through another one too.

Some places have a simple solution - paint them green with soluable paint.

People living in California shouldn't have green lawns. It's unnatural most of the year. They should all be xeriscaping.

The "disaster" in this case is not having enough money for the next year.

you waould have to live here to know that is not how our property tax system works...we are not assessed yearly..are we really in a drought?..we had one year of lower than normal rainfall..snowed in early dec. which is not normal..but did rain over 50 % which is not really a drought..but the government wanted to raise rates on people with meters...

So if I bought a house worth $100,000 then that's what the tax rate would be set for? Regardless if the house increased in value or something like that?

right...here is how it works..wife and i bought our first house in 1975 for 42,000..my taxes are just $1,100 a year right now...if i were to sell it it is worth 850,000...your taxes would be 1.25% of 850,000 which is $10.625 a year...
