A Muslim family of nine from London, including four children, were refused permission to board a flight to the US out of Gatwick airport on 15 December.

Mohammed Zahid Mahmood, from Walthamstow, eight members of his family and two other children checked in for the Norwegian Airlines flight to Los Angeles on 15 December.

The family say they were told an official in the US had objected.

At the boarding gate Mr Mahmood said they were told they could not travel but no reason was given.

Now the family have shared mobile phone footage which shows them talking to staff at the airport.

Has this refusal been reported in the US and has any reason for the refusal been given? I knew this was likely to happen if Donald Trump got elected president but as far as I know he hasn't even been selected as the Republican candidate yet. I think he only outcome of events like this is further radicalisation of Muslims.

I guess this is why investigative journalism is important, rather than just reporting hearsay from an individual...

turns out it wasn't the entire family thatw as denied entry into the USA... it was a single individual in the group that was refused entry, and they ALL decided not to go as a result of this... it had nothing to do with them being muslum, it had to do with past travel experiences of one individual in that family, and him being on the no fly list as a result of those travels... so please don't mistake this story for factual truth, its hearsay and an opinion... its far from clearly the facts... but its being used as propaganda now...

No the thread is not a lie but is a story which at the moment seems to be being carried only by the BBC. In interviews there was no mention of only one person being denied the right to fly but the whole family. The BBC immediately got people to do investigations into the family to see if there was anything which could be held against any one in it. The main issue seemed to be that one of them had been arrested on arrival and then deported from Israel 8 years ago. Some people would consider this a badge of honour. You only need to be critical of Israel for this to happen. A couple of days ago they also suggested that a son had some contact/information concerning radicals on facebook or something. Dad denied this with a vengeance and said 'and do not come back to me suggesting I do not know my son...we are very close and there is absolutely no way that he would ever have anything to do with such people. If there is something of that nature then it does not belong to my son'. It is not impossible this was a mistake as, although the BBC do carry the story in this later account, and the Israel arrest is still mentioned that is not.

Nowhere has the BBC said only one or two people were refused the right to fly. It began according to them with the whole family and then the BBC did enquiries to see what they could have against them.

The question is now being raised with the PM as there is a growing Number of British Muslims not getting access to the US - Cat Stevens even being one.

The family are apparently not going to have the £9,000 they paid in fares (possibly accommodation too) returned.

    Happy Christmas!

Not so long ago he was trying to stop Muslims from getting access to anywhere by confiscating their passports. So whatever happened 'freedom of movement'? Jesus H it gets more bizarre by the day!

I like how the 'blame Trump' card is already being played, even though the primaries aren't even over, much less the general election! The left is working overtime to perfect the spin & distortions, so they can pitch their propaganda narratives.

so now it is becoming, 'Americans hate muslims!!' Obama is still in office, & he's no doubt got another muslim apology tour coming up, so how can they do this? Is it just practice, in anticipation for Trump or some other pub winning the election?

have you not studied war strategy... if you can shoot and kill your enemy before his guns get within range of yours, you do... you don't wait to line up troops all within range and take turns shooting at each other... that was a horrible war strategy... unless you have irish conscripts that won't get paid if they die, then send those in first...

P.S. the real shocked is the "blame trump" card is being played by foreign countries, who aren't supposed to influence our elections... remember when the democrats got their panties in a bundle when republicans were claimed to be influencing elections in israel with the prime minister... so now suddenly its okay for foreigners to influence american elections? hypocrites!

That's a mistake. The BBC is notoriously leftist and anti-American.

"The account, in the name of Hamza Hussain, lists the job titles "supervisor at Taliban and leader at al-Qaeda" - suggesting it may have been published as a joke.

Asked about the account, Mr Mahmood - whose son's name is also Hamza - said hackers may be to blame, adding: "That could be anything, maybe a mistake."

Airports have famous, long-standing security rule: Don't joke about bombs or terrorism. Jokes about bombs will be treated as security threats."

I don't see what the problem is.

Would you agree that Fox News is notoriously rightist and pro-Republican?

Fox isn't your national broadcaster. The BBC if is a leftist joke - they have former Labour cabinet ministers in high places.

It depends ... the commentators (O'Reilly, Hannity) are all conservative, but the real news shows are straight down the middle. There is a difference between the two types of shows.

True. The actual reporting is the same as any other medium with only the commentary (which is actually entertainment rather than news reporting) catering to either the left or right. I believe that Fox touts that they allot the same amount of time to right wing commentators as they do to left. No other medium has made such a claim of equal time.
