http://vimeo.com/30220643 Thanks for looking. Enjoy. Don't forget you can go full screen if your connection will allow it.
I made a comment on your other thread regarding the video. I've got a GoPro Hero camera and I've been experimenting with various motorcycle camera mounts. I posted a video on that thread. Any way you can raise the camera angle to see the trail ahead? The lower angle tends to make the ride a bit dizzying for the viewer, it would be nice to see what's ahead. Other than that, good quality video, what kind of camera?
Yeah, I wish I could raise it up too, but that's as far as it will go -- that's the one thing I don't like about this cam. I like the chest mount b/c it puts the viewer in the cockpit, while the helmet mount just sort of gives you this disconnected landscape. I'm going to pose this question on the GoPro forum and see what those folks have to say.
Cool video. Looks like great fun. Perhaps you guys have seen this, as I understand it went all over youtube. A friend in Johannesburg sent this to me a couple weeks ago... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2oymHHyV1M&feature=player_embedded]Springbok takes out biker[/ame]
Obviously a mountain bike requires a more stable platform than the bike frame or handlebars can provide. A helmet cam does raise it above a level that there's disconnect for the viewer. I think the chest mount is great...but I was curious if the angle could be more forward than downward. I was tryinig to get a video game feel to my mounting the camera far forward so the viewer only sees the road not the motorcycle...so maybe I just have bias.
Unfortunately, the way the camera mounts to the chest strap prevents it from going any further up the horizon. In full-back position, it's actually about 5º beyond vertical, but that is still not enough to shift the horizon to the degree I desire. I'd like the bottom of the frame to be just below the handlebars. I am experimenting with the crop function in Vegas 11. I'll let you know if I come up with anything interesting.
One thing I didn't realize is that GoPro encodes the video in H.264. I had to convert it to WMV for Windows movie maker to accept the video for edits. Lots of generation loss doing that. I need to invest in some editing software, but I'm on a budget.
Vegas is under $50. It's very powerful -- maybe too powerful for the casual user as it can get very complicated. But for basic editing it's quite good.
Glad you enjoyed it. It is really a fantastic trail. My next video from Bend, OR should be up shortly.
