    Like frying entire cities in Japan and threatening pretty much everyone else in the world with the same fate ever since then?

    One catch here is that every bit of physics and engineering humans come up with seems to get used by those striving to find ways to kill people.

    I don't think we can stop advancement because of that.

    It's worse than that. Thermodynamics led to the steam engine which led to generations of miners dieing from black lung and mining disasters. Industrialization led to Milton's "dark Satanic mills" and the enclosure laws which drove peasants from the land into those mills. This is not to mention the polluting of the air and water.

    Advance of scientific knowledge has many drawbacks.
