I made a mistake.....7 to 10 years all Carriers will have this Laser.....LINK....http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2013/04/08/future-is-now-navy-to-deploys-lasers-on-ships-in-2014/

Since the Nimitz Class will need to change it's power source to at least two A1B Nuclear Fission Reactors as all Ford Class will come with two A1B's stock.....it will be 15 to 20 to have the FEL's installed in all Nimitz Class.

Ford Class might actually have the CVN-79 J.F.K. and CVN-Enterprise have FEL's stock.

All Ticonderoga Class Aegis Cruisers will have both FEL's and the SM-3 ABM/ASAT and never models of.

There has been a BREAKTHROUGH in ENERGY GENERATION and this breakthrough is a DIRECT RESULT of a concept right out of Reagan's SDI.

Whether it will be deemed too much too soon...is yet to be seen.

The 6 Tier System is designed......CURRENTLY.....as Aegis Cruiser Launched SM-3's......Secret Black Program Ships supplied with advanced ABM/ASAT'S and Several Types of Lasers and Particle Beam Weapons although I would not want to be anywhere NEAR a Particle Beam Weapon discharging......as 1000 Plus Dead of Radiation Exposure Soviet's can't be wrong.

As well as Multiple Reactor Energy Supplied Land Based FEL's.

    The MEB.

    F-15ASAT/ABM Carrier Launchers.

And one system that cannot be mentioned.

It is a LIMITED SYSTEM currently but could easily handle say....a launch of 5 to 10 ICBM's from multiple areas but not all of the Globe.

The U.S. Navy has been the preemptive Nuclear Shield for decades with the Ohio Class and it's 24 The UGM-133Trident II, or Trident D5 MIRVed SLBM's.....Warhead (in USA usage only): The Mark 5 MIRV can carry up to 14 W88 (475 kt) warheads.....although treaty has lowered MIRV numbers.

There are 18 Ohio Class and 4 British Vanguard Class with 16 Trident II-D-5's on the Vanguard as well 4 of the Ohio Class have been changed to be SLCM Carriers.

Still....with a Hypersonic Mach 24 Velocity and accuracy that can be measured in ten's of meters.....the Ohio Class and Vanguard Class with the Trident II or D-5 Missiles and MIRVed Warheads....with accuracy test results that resulted in impossible to keep secret.....ACTUAL PHYSICAL DIRECT HIT'S of a 10 Meter in Diameter Circle Target.....the Ohio and Vanguard Class are capable of destroying a Nations entire Nuclear System before they would have a chance to respond.

Once again, the key words are planned and expected.

I do not count on anything being deployed until it is fully tested, debugged, and actually installed and finished it's shake-down.

It may be 7-10 years, it may be 15-20 years, it may be the second tuesday of the next century.

And I bet it is well over 10 years. But come back in another decade and a half, and we can see who was closer to the truth, ok?

Well....the LINK I provided are Lasers that are being deployed now and were being deployed back at the end of 2013.

The Ford Class Carriers are specifically designed to power the FEL.

The Nimitz Class will need their reactor changed to duel A1B's.

The Ground Based Nuclear Powered FEL's....they exist NOW.

Reguardless that I made a mistake of about 8 to 10 years...they will be deployed.....and when they are....it will change the face of Warfare.

    Are they deployed now?

    I rest my case.

As I said, I only really care what is operational now, not some imaginary date some day in the future that may or may not ever come.

"They will be deployed". Sorry, complete rubbish. Not saying it will never happen, but how many things over the decades have been promised but never delivered? As I said, consider what is real and exists, not fantasy that is in development and at this time only a figment of the imagination of some R&D team.

Oh, and yea, I did look at your link. A single weapon, on a single ship (a 44 year old LPD only saved from being turned into razor blades because it is now a test bed for future systems).

This system is also very much in development, and will not be "deployed" for at least a decade. Once again, your claims do not quite match reality. A single emplacement on a test ship does not mean it is "ready for deployment".

Now when a class of current active ships (say the latest flight of Arleigh Burke class destroyers) are brought in and this is placed upon them, then I will take notice. Until that ever happens, this is still nothing but another test, and the system is very much a "not ready for prime time player".

So.....are you telling me you do not believe Ground Based Nuclear Reactor Power supplied FEL's do not exist?

As a working and deployable weapon system?

    No.

And that is really what we are talking about, real systems in service now, not test programs to be deployed someday.

And I know I have brought these up multiple times every time somebody mentions LASERs as the "ultimate weapon".

In the 1980's, the Soviets were actually ahead of us in the LASER Weapon area, but they could never lick the issue of thermal blooming.

Of all of the weapons platforms, a laser is probably the easiest to defeat and the limitations of a laser beam are numerous.

Anyone who has one of those pen like laser pointers can conduct many experiments with it at home.

Go into your bathroom and turn on the shower head and point the laser through water spray and see what happens.

Then close the door and turn on the hot water on the shower and let the bathroom get real steamy as if you were in fog and see what happens.

WARNING ! This experiment should only be conducted by millennial generation geeks and true believers in laser weapons. Stand in front of a mirror and point the laser pointer directly at the reflection of your face and aim for your eyes and push the button to activate the laser. :roflol:

Remember when navy warships use to lay down smoke screens ? Most warships except nuclear powered warships are still capable of laying down a smoke screen.

An early article on FELs, for those who would like to know what is being talked about. I worked on a related project from the mid-90's to '98, machining and assembling from the ground up and testing the master oscillators, but at wavelengths considerably longer, 355 down to the 240 range. Thermal blooming is a problem, but not that big a problem to surmount. Neither is smoke, when dealing with pulsed lasers at high frequencies. The biggest roadblock then was the relatively 'long' delay times between pulses needed to build up power in laser cavities in series to useful levels for release. On our end, we kept shattering some very expensive optics in the laser system itself over and over and over ...

    Wiki article on Q-switching.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q-switching

I built many variations of these, mostly:

It's interesting how some of these systems borrowed designs from the old steam locomotive era and the tubular boilers that came along. Some of the experimental designs sitting around Livermore wouldn't have looked out of place in the locomotives shops of 1870.

You are wrong about this one.

No...I cannot prove it and if I did I doubt I would even be heard from again here.....but they exist.....several Ground Systems....one or two Test Ships.

Not much of a conspiracy since you and I both know before they get installed on carriers and cruisers there will be extensive testing at sea.

As far as on Land...this is a no brainer.

FEL's can adjust their frequency to overcome atmospheric issues.

But even if we take Lasers and Particle Beams out of the equasion....the U.S. Military has one HELL of a great ABM/ASAT Missile System based within all Ticonderoga Class Aegis Cruisers.....SM-3's.....carried by F-15's....the new AAHS ABM/ASAT....and that third one I can't recall it's designation with two stages and is Mobile....I will have to look it up.

If it is not operational yet but you say it is but in secret, that is conspiracy stuff. As I said many times, I only take into consideration what exists and is operational and deployed now, not what may be in the future or what somebody claims is operational but a super-squirrel secret.

And no, we do not have much of an ABM-ASAT system. All we have is the SM-3. Period.

The only other systems are PATRIOT (low level ballistic missile) and THAAD (medium level ABM). Neither of the 2 latter systems are effective against ICBMs.

And we have never had a "2 stage" mobile system. Mid-course is not mobile (and the only installation established to use them is in Alaska), and neither is the other system in development, "AEGIS Ashore" (which is nothing but an SM-3 in a fixed land position). And none of our mobile systems (THAAD, PATRIOT) are multi-staged.

And the ASM-135 was cancelled all the way back when Reagan was President. That program is deader then last month's tuna salad. And it was not an "SM-3 carried by an F-15", it was basically a pumped-up air to air missile (2,600 pounds total).

It looks nothing like an SM-3, which weighs in at over 3,000 pounds.

The two are not even related, other than both are solid fueled missiles.

Trust me, not a good idea to engage me in a discussion about ABM systems, this is not only something I have studied for years, but it was my profession for years. And more then once I have sat down for drinks with the Navy guys that were working on the various LASER and rail gun systems under development at the bowling alley at White Sands.

Excuse me for saying this as I think you are a very good posting member and accurate to the point you keep me honest with my postings which at least in my mind say's something very positive about you.

Now I am as soon as I get to Tampa and debreifed.....RETIRED....for good this time no matter what they try and dangle in front of me.

I am NOT nor have ever been Military even though I have worked with the very best the U.S. and Canadian Military and even British and Aussie SAS......but because of what I do or have done we have had to use on occasion some pretty exotic systems.

Since the guy's in the white Lab Coats are not going to be pulling the trigger or pressing the buton....or even on one occasion actually using an electric charge to cause a ring of explosives to at first detonate the tiny blasting cap and then opening two secondary systems...one being water and another Liquid Chemical Compound to mix and drip along a small part of this weapon system over what was a built in ring of powdered Magnesium which then would ignite THERMITE as Thermite is a mixture of aluminium and iron oxide powder that is otherwise difficult to ignite.

But by the time the Thermite was to be ignited this particular 100 Meter in Radium Anti-Personel Weapon had to be WELL ON IT'S WAY TO TARGET because if it wasn't.....the person or people who were hoping that sending this Weapon System would not involve PRAYING THE DAMN THING FLYS TO TARGET BEFORE THE MAGNESIUM MEETS WATER AND A FEW OTHER CHEMICALS IN SUSPENSION.....because once that Magnesium starts to burn.....IT WILL IGNITE THE THERMITE and MAN!!! You don't want to be within a MILE of this thing going off!!!

Anyways.....I have had to use some fairly exotic systems in my time and perhaps that's I see many of the words coming out of the members of the Pentagon as,,,BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.....NOT READY YET....BLAH...BLAH...BLAH.......NEEDS MORE TESTING......BLABLABLA BLA BLAH.....NEED MORE MONEY APPROPRIATED TO FINISH DEVELOPMENT......BA BLAH BLA BLAH BA BLAH.......won't be ready for deployment until 2026.

IN THE MEAN WHILE.....and this actually happened although I admit it was not involving Lasers....in the man time....MY TEAM AND I ARE USING THE DAMN THING!!!

They used to pull that kind of S#!# on us alot as they would attempt first to stimulate the JAMES BOND IN EVERY MAN!!! By saying things like......THIS JUST CAME OUT! NO ONE HAS EVER BEFORE BATTEFIELD CONDITIONS TESTED IT!....and this next part is when I KNOW this damn thing is going to jam or not work and that's when they say.......IT HAS A 100% ACCURACY AND TEST USE RECORD......IN THE LAB!!!

Well....sorry but THE LAB.....is NOT the FIELD!!!

Now you might have worked in the field of AMB/ASAT'S your whole life but there is some new stuff....well not new to the guy's in the Lab Coats as sometimes they might have to wait 5 to 10 years just for an oppertunity to present itself where their particular idea and it is MORE than just an IDEA.....it's a whole new way of doing things....allows them to develop and test such a weapon system in BATTLEFIELD CONDITIONS or close to it.

I mentioned two systems you did not comment upon probably because you are now out of the loop and again...FORGIVE ME AS THAT IS NOT A BAD THING!!!

A few major BREAKTHROUGHS in a much more stable, burns with much more power.....27.45% Increase.....takes up almost just HALF THE SPACE.....and does not burn so hot that as the Russian's found out THE HARD WAY.....it's all about LONG BURN DURATION.....A MORE POWERFUL AMOUNT OF ENERGY GENERATION......LESS WEIGHT AND LESS SPACE.....AND TO MAKE A SOLID ROCKET FUEL THAT DOES NOT BURN SO HOT THAT THE MISSILE ITSELF IS ON THE VERGE OF BEING COMPROMISED AS TO IT'S STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY.....WHILE IT'S IN THE PROCESS OF THE BURN!!!

We developed some Grade A Fuel.

You didn't even MENTION ANYTHING when I posted about the AAHS ABM/ASAT......as this is launched from an F-15 and can reach Hypersonic Velocities Faster than any Missile we currently have....nor did you know about....although you did state it doesn't exist....about the NEW 2 Stage Mobile ABM/ASAT and NO....I am not refering to the non-mobile U.S. Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD; previously known as National Missile Defense – NMD) system which has in fact reached initial operational capability. Instead of using an explosive charge, it launches a kinetic projectile.

I am talking about the worlds first TWO STAGE MIRVED ICBM KILLER.

I am certain you know what you post about....but I am still in....even if I am not Military I must be made aware of such systems because if what we do SCREWS THE POOCH.....we have to sometimes have the BIG BOY'S BACKING US UP.....WITH BIG TIME SYSTEMS.

Another exaple of something you are not aware of or perhaps you believe it is the same as THE ACTIVE DENIAL SYSTEM...it is not.

The MEB.....or Microwave Emmisions Beam.....can use a Modified 747 as a Platform which the 747 has been constructed with different engines....completely different avionics to fly at much higher altitudes than a standard 747.....and the fuselage is modified using some Cabon Fiber Composite Materials to allow this 747 which was sort of the first version of the 747-8.....plus with a few other modifications secific to engine and sustained cruising velocities to cruise at over 49,999 Feet Plus....actual altitude capability is classified....to cruise at such high altitudes at Mach .895 for long durations which is .035 Mach faster than the 747-8i.....and FMP at Altitude can allow this version of the 747-8i to reach speeds of Mach .92.

The MEB Satellite Version is still being stored at Vandenburg for Wartime Launch.

But the MEB using the 747-8i as a Platform.....is capablle of once targeting a wide field area of Mechanized Enemy Divisions.....it will completely destroy all Electronics and all Guidance and Targeting as well as not just disrupt but MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR ANY ENEMY COMMUNICATION TO TAKE PLACE from such a targeted Mechanized Division.

Used upon Enemy Aircraft from either Higher Elevation or from any angle.....Enemy Aircraft once targeted by the MEB WILL FALL RIGHT OUT OF THE SKY!!

There are many other uses for the MEB and the awful thought that first went through my head is GOD....we are not going to use this to COOK or enemies are we?

Unfortunately that is possible....but the MEB is much more valuable a weapon being used as I described.

You know a LOT Mushroom.....and I am glad you do.

But there do exist some systems that are very new as several major breakthroughs in Solid Rocket Fuel, Lasers, Particle Beams and Microwave Capabilities just started coming into the picture in 2010.

Even the SM-3 that we used in Operation Burnt Frost......well the newer version of tht SM-3 is faster, more accurate, has a better operational distance.....and does not need to be constantly looked after as it approaches target.
