    uhm. ok
“Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment — try getting it yourselves We will be backing you, but try getting it yourselves. Point of sales, much better, much more direct if you can get it yourself.”
So the first problem is that, as usual, Trump's complete incoherence makes it ipossible to parse what he is saying. It sure sounds like he's telling the governors that they should be doing it themselves. I am not sure I get your point.

As with mounting federal efforts to create tests, vaccines and treatments, the president has significant resources to find and create ventilators and other needed equipment.

The objection is that Trump does not appear to be implementing that very reasonable direction.

Why would he not do that?

Yeah, he is telling them to work on getting them but they will have his support. Now, look at the news of today. Trump invoked the production defense act. What does that tell you?

Look, the OP was about some alleged misleading quotes. Trump did ask the states to take care of the euipment crisis. This is not a debate, it's a fact. Not sure why this is being touted as a media lie.
Yes, I saw the "we will be backing you" quote. Here is a lesson for Trump: words matter. Since the beginning of this crisis, I agree with about 80 percent of what has been done (and in general I disagree w about 98 percent of what Trump dies). But words actually efing matter. If he could actually articulate that thought in a semi coherent manner, I might be on board, but Trump is such a crook that "you take care of it, I got your back" does not reassure anyone. Lay out your plan with actual grown up words, and then we can see if we agree or disagree. For the time being the only thing I am sure of is that Trump is asking the states to take care of the medical equipment crisis themselves

What would help is a concerted federal effort to create supply ventilators and other equipment.

Trump's natural reaction is to leave it to corporations, with governors going shopping.

[Too many] Democrats act like children who think they can't do anything for themselves, and have to rely on Mommy Government.

If my governor could get supplies more efficiently directly, I'm all for it, and I'm happy to know Trump has his back.

Fox programs, Rushbo, Breitbart and others have specifically labeled COVID as a Democratic plot on the president - suggesting it is critical to ignore what is being said by experts at CDC (for one example).

And, I'd point out that Trump has NOT addressed that problem, allowing fake news to go unopposed.

Trump's communication problem goes well beyond what he directly states.

This is more right wing crap.

There are actions our federal government can take that are beyond what governors could possibly do. And, saying "have your back" is worth less than nothing when nothing is being done.

Pretending otherwise like YOU would have us do is detrimental to our fight against COVID.

    As of today.

Why not a month ago? Why only after being directly asked the obvious question and not having an answer?

I'm glad he did, but ...

Just 5 hours ago Trump tweeted:

"I only signed the Defense Production Act to combat the Chinese Virus should we need to invoke it in a worst case scenario in the future. Hopefully, there will be no need, but we are all in this TOGETHER!"

So, really great. He signed it, then shows no intent in using it now, when states are in serious need of supplies and equipment such as ventilators??

Is THIS what he meant by "having your back" or "all in this TOGETHER"?

How come we keep getting whipsawed with half assed nonsense???
