See? Our government is just too unfit to make decent job.... AND, I have to live in same country with those fools, I'm SO DOOMED...
Thanks.. New elections coming and once again people may think that someone in next government has enough brain activity for the job. Social security is complex issue, but people should know how to gather enough right people around it and keep working as long as it takes - also keeping mind constitution and other current laws (where change is needed and so on). Now it's been sad circus without significant progress - it's like trying to win triathlon with stationary bike and cement boots.
I wonder what the real cause of Finland's spiraling healthcare costs are. Somehow I doubt it only has to do with the aging population. Also just to point out, Finland has never been as wealthy as Sweden (it kind of straddles the line between Eastern Europe and Western Europe, in some respects), so any inherent problems in the system would show up in a country like Finland first.

The "problem" with health and/or social security reform IMO is that in order to do it effectively, it requires proper mutli-partisan action. The timescales over which the effects will be felt are so long that the current government will be long-gone so all parties need to have skin in the game. It's also far too easy to make health and/or social security reform a political football. Unfortunately this kind of "grown up" politics seems to be far too difficult

It wasn't about that and this was more about healthcare (maybe a bit misleading when I used 'social security', but with that I mean all that wide area what we call 'safety net'). Basic income was just a test run and it was only for 2000 (reduced housing benefit, so total income wasn't that much).
