JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected an appeal from an African-American attorney who called the Confederate battle emblem on the Mississippi flag "an official endorsement of white supremacy."



The justices did not comment as they ended a lawsuit by lawyer Carlos Moore that sought to have the flag declared an unconstitutional relic of slavery.


Mississippi has used the same flag since 1894. It's the last state banner featuring the Confederate symbol, a red field topped by a blue tilted cross dotted by 13 white stars. Critics say the symbol is racist. Supporters say it represents history.

Kirstie Alley is speaking out in defense of people who lose their jobs following anonymous allegations of sexual misconduct.

“What the hell is happening? We now live in a country where people lose their jobs when accused of something without proof or trial or in some cases w anonymous accusers?” the Scream Queens actress, 66, tweeted Wednesday.

She also blasted the people who choose to make anonymous allegations. “Can’t confront your accuser? This is bulls—. And IT HURTS THE REAL VICTIMS of abuse. AND innocent people,” she added. . . . .

Trying to impose it by the courts is the wrong way to go about it. This was on the ballot in 2001 and didn't make it. Part of the problem was that the new flag crowd insulted the old flag crowd at every opportunity.

But now after the Emmanuel AME Church massacre in Charlston a whole lot of hearts have truly changed.

There's a lot of influential black people and influential white people, and a lot of average people who want a new flag. I believe that if they petitioned for signatures again and got it on the ballot it would pass fairly easily.

The pot could be sweetened to pass it for sure by flying the old flag once a year from April 9 to April 13th -- the dates of the Appomattox surrender in '65 through the end of the Battle of Fort Sumter in '61. It's a great history lesson and everybody gets something, nobody is left out in the cold. C'mon, give the history of the Civil War five days. C'mon, give the new flag, likely a magnolia flag, 360 days.

I guess the danger of doing it by election is that it will have to be admitted that whites supported it, while by doing it in the courts whites would not have to be given any credit.

My hope is that a sweet deal that includes everyone can get on the ballot.

 

How about academicians have a special year designated to study the reasons for the
War Between The States
other than slavery.

Then the Stars & Bars may gain some due & popular respectability.
And the CSA no longer treated as only sadistic slavers.

Just because some bad people adopt a historical symbol should not tarnish 100% of that symbols respectability.

It is unlikely that academia can be that objective here. A kid at Ole Miss ate a banana outside, looked for a trash can for the peel, could find none, so threw the peel and it landed on a tree. This was deemed a racist act and students were so upset that part of the university had to be shut down and a seminar closed. Honest Injun, I'm not making this up.

 

So why did they wait for 25 years after the civil war to put this on their flag?

Because those were the years when the South got involved in honoring their dead from
the War Between the States. Bronze Statues, remembrances and honor.

Regardless, that is up to the people of the State of Alabama and no one else.

Those were the years the carpetbaggers came down from the North to line their pockets and try to turn the South into liquid brown.

 

No I believe the era of the South honoring the fallen for the Confederacy occurred
after restoration, carpetbaggers, etc.
Reconstruction did not end until 1877 as an understanding to allow Rutherford B. Hayes to be acknowledged the President over the Democrat, Tilden.

Though there is a chance that Kennedy could side with Phillips on narrow grounds, Masterpiece Cakeshop could potentially give religious conservatives sweeping power to engage in discrimination. . . .

Father Shoots Gunman Threatening Family in Texas Restaurant ​

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Police say a father eating with his family at a fast food restaurant in San Antonio fatally shot a robber who threatened his family with a gun.


Police Capt. Michael Starnes told the San Antonio Express-News that the robber died at the scene Wednesday evening.


San Antonio police Sgt. Roy Miller says the gunman threatened the father and restaurant employees and the employees ran out the back of the restaurant. The gunman demanded money and, when the father refused, the gunman turned his weapon toward the man's family. At that point, the father, who is licensed to carry a firearm, pulled out his own gun and fired.


Starnes says the father isn't facing charges and that he "really saved the day and protected a lot of people."



Sad about being licenses but, the rest is so sweet.

No License, no registration, no permit, open or concealed carry.
High crime the unlawful discharge of a gun, not the procession.

Well the headline sounded promising anyway. Only, "was bruised".
Just a normal fight in the correctional facility over telephone use.
Still the headline brought some happiness.
