    Ideology and Coups

"We arrive at this level when we no longer make individuals personally responsible for the deceptions which we detect in their utterances, and when we no longer attribute the evil that they do to their malicious cunning. It is only when we more or less consciously seek to discover the source of their untruthfulness in a social factor, that we are properly making an ideological interpretation."--Karl Mannheim, Ideology and Utopia,(pdf.) p. 54.

Ideology wielded by government is a powerful force of destruction for it is an attack on the Spirit (Geist) of humankind.

There are at least two conceptions of ideology for interpretation; the immanent particular concept that seeks to understand the individual on a psychological level involving self-deception, lies, and fallacies. A second more theoretical concept of ideology for interpretation is “nooloigcal” (From Ancient Greek νοῦς: nous, "mind" + -logy, or the science of intellectual phenomena) which is more universal and takes into account the totality of thought-systems within a historico-social classes and milieu. This broader view takes into account the speaker’s life-situation and is a “transcendental interpretation” of ideology involving collective-psychological mental states to understand their theoretical implications and structure of group worldviews.

    The Nazi Coup

In 1919 Adolf Hitler was a WWI hero and military veteran, but still secretly worked for the defeated Reichswehr (German military) as an intelligent agent (reconnaissance unit) to infiltrate various popular socialist parties and the German Workers’ Party (DAP) in particular. The Reichswehr was a “state within the state” which was the Weimar Republic during this time. Hitler was a subsidized veteran hired to recruit other veterans to overtake DAP and eventually attempted a failed coup against the Weimar Republic of which he later became Chancellor in 1932.

The Coup Against Franklin D. Roosevelt

There have been many coups in America since the end of WWII with some successful. In 1934 Irenee du Pont and William Knudsen, the president of Gernal Motors, and the Morgan Bank plotted to overthrow FDR.
American Legion and Gerald MacGuire, a former commander of the Connecticut American Legion was sent to recruit Marine Smedley Butler to lead the coup against FDR.
Just before the planned coup the press primed the public to accept fascism as not all that bad. Henry Luce was the founder of Life Magazine and was enthralled with Mussolini. Even FDR and Winston Churchill had good things to say of Mussolini.
Eventually, Butler informed Congress of the coup against FDR. Failed coup.

There is also the Nixon coup of 1968 when he encouraged the Vietnamese to not make a peace agreement at he Paris Peace Talks so he could offer a better deal when elected president. Successful coup

And Ronald Reagan imitated Nixon’s sabotage of negotiations by convincing Iran not to release the American hostages until after his election in 1980. Successful coup

And again George W. Bush was appointed President by the US Supreme court when Gore had won the election by any count of the 2000 Florida votes. Successful coup

A very poor record for any kind of democracy.

On January 6, 2021 we witnessed another coup attempt by American fascist forces that failed this time. These fascists attempting to overthrow elections must be stopped and not accepted as normal political behavior. During 1923 the Wiemar Republic had so many daily coup attempts they caused traffic jams and street battles as political factions ran into each other on their way to seize the Reichstag.

We see the same pattern of force involved in other fascist takeovers; a corrupt president as leader; veterans groups subsidized by wealthy oligarchy to be used as extra-legal para-military squads; unstable government and gridlock; manipulated elections; cooperation of the media to spread agitation propaganda; agents internal to the official government taking independent action directed by secret factions; continuous social chaos and threats to keep the public disoriented; infiltration of proxy political parties to seize absolute power.
Hitler made sure that he had the backing of the three "Ms" which are the military, media, and money. Any transcendental interpretation of ideology must take into account the elements of the larger social situation that ideological utterances, deceptions, and errors are given to determine the causal determinants of the worldview expressed by them.

In Germany the industrial capitalists asked Hitler for-- and received--the following economic policies which are identical to the American Republican Party platform today:

    1. The government must take steps to lower the cost of production to profits.

    2. Lower taxes.

    3. Reduce the size of government.

    4. Lower unemployment insurance benefit.

    5. The government must allow wages to progress to lower levels, by voiding labor contracts and binding arbitration.
