Sorry, disagree. It's all a matter of cost-benefit: if a patient is on the downhill slide to death (which occurs within a couple of weeks with this disease), the risk of withholding it is worse than the risk of providing it. And ESPECIALLY since this drug has already been on the market, with its side effects well-known. Ask yourself: if your mother were lying there in her last days, and the doctor said there has been significant anecdotal evidence that this drug could save her, would you say: no....let's wait for six months until all the trials have been done.

We do not have six months to spare.

Yes. It seems that some posters WANT to heighten the pessimism and panic as much as possible rather than acknowledge that there is a pending treatment that could, at the minimum, be helpful in some cases. Any clues as to why people would WANT to build up the hysteria?

The left wing media searches high and low for anything to smear the President. If the President suggested aspirin, CNN would fault it.

The above is emotional drivel instead of rational thinking.

What if it was your mother lying there and you agreed to let the doctor give her the drug and she immediately has a negative reaction to it and dies in agony right before your eyes?

Had you said no she might have recovered or died peacefully instead.

But YOU decided to RISK HER LIFE because YOU were afraid that she would die!

That is NOT how you make those kinds of decisions for OTHER PEOPLE!

Your mother is the one who should have given INFORMED CONSENT, not YOU!

Everyone participating in those trials signs a Consent and Waiver form. That is a standard protocol for a reason.

We don't get to make life or death choices for other people.

Nail hit directly on the head. All I read from the usual suspects are negatives. I am stunned at how many of them have become experts in the medical field. Allowing one's hatred for their president to override common sense does not help. What a way to go through life. This virus should transcend politics as much as possible.

Sorry, but just because you don't agree with my logic doesn't give you the right to call it emotional driven. Perhaps I think YOUR thinking is drivel, but I know enough not to be rude and insulting just because we disagree.

I am SMH at the posters who are so adamant to hold down the hope that this drug has shown substantial evidence of being helpful and instead want to keep the panic going.

The patients do. If they make a different choice than you would it's none of your business.

Really? Please tell us where he said they're making ventilators. Like most anti-Trump propaganda, it is given without links to back it up.

Trump's attitude towards this new drug treatment is no different than Gov. Cuomo's, it looks very promising and let's go full speed ahead on trials. Who could oppose that?

But that is not the suggested treatment

The study was NOT on critically ill patients and we have no idea whether or not it will work in the critically ill. For all we know it might cause more problems as these are the subset of patients who have not mounted an effective immune response and this “cure” works on

The problem is that we only have in vitro evidence and only anecdotal in vivo evidence

This is what the CDC says

    https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/therapeutic-options.html

What we don’t want is people sourcing this on the black market or swallowing Grandma pills or even swallowing goldfish treatment and then not doing the ONE thing we know does work - infection prevention

    We aren’t

We are saying let’s not stop doing what we know will work (social isolation and infection prevention) in the hope this MIGHT work

Your president has hit a home run -- one that will probably secure his place with the greatest presidents that ever lived. Other than your unwarranted, kooky bias, great post. Thanks.

In any event, Trump shouldn't be giving medical advice or even appearing at the Task Force pressers.

No one said that people should take a drug in unlimited quantities and Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are different. Trump had doctors on stage to separate the science from the cheer leading.
Oh, and Trump didn't turn the Sahara into a desert 6000 years ago by withdrawing from the Paris pud pounding.

You do get to make these choices if your mother has signed a medical power of attorney giving you the authority to make such choices.

So the question remains, would you give your dying mother such drugs if you had a medical power of attorney?

Congress may be unable to pass a stimulus bill to keep the working class and small business solvent through this crisis.
In that case the President should announce that he no longer supports the shutdown. There will be no alternative.

yes the mortality rate in the US is about 1% because most of the people that get it show very mild symptoms and never end up in the hospital. Its just like any other cold or flu, they get sick, and then get better. But there are some people that this virus hits like a fright train. And they end up hospitalized and the mortality of the very extreme cases is through the roof, this guy was on his death bed and made a recovery after treatment.

I really cant understand your stance here. I can understand if this was a new drug and the need for caution would be justified because you just dont know what the side effects are. This drug combo has been around for years and safely been taken by millions of people. your stance would be like a guy is having a heart attack and you are demanding that nobody give him aspirin because there hasn't been enough clinical trials on aspirin when having heart attacks, so even though millions of people take aspirin every year you argue that there might be side effects and you shouldn't give it to a dying man even though there is some pretty convincing evidence that it helps.

Actually the more I think about it, I think I understand. Trump said it looks promising so of course liberals would be against it working.. How sick is that..

I agree, but if this does prove to drastically reduce the mortality than shutting the country down for months on end makes no sense.
