Mitch McConnel has said he will not allow a vote on Covid relief any time soon. Trump has been silent.

The House has passed TWO separate packages that would (among other things) restore the enhanced Unemployment benefits and yet....nothing

Tens of millions of Americans are out of work. The Hospitality industry (hotels, restaurants, bars) has been crippled and is facing cold weather that will likely close thousands

    And ...nothing

Yeah they could artificially prop up the economy... or they could just open the states back up and let people get their jobs back.

The GOP and Trump just want to hurt blue states. This is what the holdup is all about. Relief for corporations and the billionaires, but no relief for teachers, local government workers etc. Because they are all lazy moochers and the blue states should not be bailed out by tax payer's money. That's the narrative.

Thus, the GOP gamble that, for some reason, they'll hold on to the WH and the Senate. It worked for them in 2016, so maybe they think they'll be lucky twice.

We just had the highest number of infections and nearly 1,000 deaths yesterday

We could (stupidly) just throw the doors open ...and watch the virus ITSELF close everything down

People are acting stupid now because they don't like being told to stay away from indoor dining etc...but if this thing sweeps through with no contraints...no one is going to go much of anywhere...VOLUNTARILY...out of fear for their health and their lives

We would have lost 2 million lives had we not mitigated...and now you want that to be the policy while the virus is gaining strength

    Wonderful

Being totally closed down is irrelevant when they’re at 20 and 30% capacity

No we wouldn’t have. Jesus Christ you folks are completely unbelievable the amount of fear mongering over a virus with a LESS THAN 1% DEATH RATE.

If you want to close yourself in or not go to work or you’re sick. Then stay in your house and don’t come out. Let the rest of us who have lives to live and understand there are risks in EVERY DAY LIFE go out and live our lives, work our jobs and go about our business.

If you’re so terrified of catching it or spreading it then stay your ass in your house but leave me the hell alone.

That certainly is the Atlas approach. Estimates indicate it will result in 2M deaths in the US.

Pelosi is pushing a Democrat state and city, and union bail out package. She calls it COVID relief just because it sounds palatable.

Funny. It didn’t result in that many, or even comparable %-wise, in regards to deaths for S Korea and Sweden

You dispute that the virus has negatively affected revenue to state and local governments across the board?

    What are you talking about?

South Korea had a death count in the mere hundreds because of their mitigation efforts

    Sweden has been a disaster

So you understand that the states and municipalities are in dire straights because of the virus and your response is... meh... politics

    Got it

No they’re not in dire straights because of the virus. They’re in dire straits because their governors refuse to open their states.

Presidential line item veto, a great idea that gets as much support from BOTH parties as term limits. Too bad.

You beat me to it. I look around and have spoken to friends and families in other states and I don't see a wasteland of closed businesses. What industries have been closed all this time? I know that restaurants have had a tough go of it, but most are back open. Gyms - I see some still closed. But other than that, please help me, what is closed down?

Maybe you need to look harder

    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/09/16/yel...e-coronavirus-pandemic-are-now-permanent.html

    • As of Aug, 31, 163,735 businesses have indicated on Yelp that they have closed, a 23% increase since mid-July.
    • According to Yelp data, permanent closures have reached 97,966, representing 60% of closed businesses that won't be reopening.

I meant capacity. Most businesses that are even allowed to open are only able to do so at absurdly decreased capacities and forces them to reevaluate their entire business model in some cases simply to be ALLOWED to open their doors.
