    Wait a minute.......

If your kids are vaccinated, why do you care if an unvaccinated kid goes to school? Are you saying that the measles vaccine does not protect your kids from measles?

And here is an interesting chart showing mortality rates to various illnesses.

Notice that mortality due to measles had dropped to near zero (0.23 per 100,000 people) by the time the measles vaccine was introduced. In 1963, the year the measles vaccine was introduced but was not widely used, about 450 people died from measles or measles complications.

Its also a myth that a vaccine provides life long immunity - at best it provides immunity for about 10 years. That means the vast majority of the population is not immune to anything unless they have been re-immunized.

Now the question is, why did the measles mortality rate drop to near zero without a vaccine, and why don't we have massive outbreaks of measles today given so many people's vaccinations have expired?

Could it be that better sanitation, diet, heating and air conditioning, and basically a better quality of life, has more to do with it than the vaccine?

By the way, other diseases (but not all - diphtheria was probably reduced due to the antitoxin and vaccine) show the same trend of dropping to near zero mortality before the vaccines were available.

The worst thing about this is Americans do not even understand how vaccines work.

If a disease has a reproduction rate of some amount called "x" it is possible to calculate how many must be vaccinated before the disease dies out.

For instance with Ebola's current reproduction rate they calculated only 50% of people need to be vaccinated in the infected areas. So school children do not need to be all vaccinated.

America is a fascist nation that indoctrinates its youths.

Why didn't the vaccination work on those 11 kids that got it? Didn't all these kids get it from one child at a amusement park? i question the number provided by media that 82% were unvaccinated since most parents get their kids vaccinated and the ones who don't would be scattered among the population. What are the odds that 49 kids happened to be at this location unvaccinated when they got infected?

Fear mongering aside, serious side effects from vaccines are extremely rare.

Measles leads to encephalitis in about one out of every thousand cases. This used to be nearly always fatal, and though it is more treatable today it requires the ICU.

And no, I wouldn't but I would punish a school who lets them practice without all the currently accepted safety procedures.

Disney is an international destination. Measles is still common in Europe and most other countries. If you keep up your vaccination you are pretty much protected and we have the resources where that is easy. Not the case for most countries. The hype is ridiculous. Most people vaccinate and the ones that don't shouldn't be forced to put something in their kids they don't feel comfortable with. This isn't polio for goodness sake---when I was a kid, it was simply expected you would get measles (though I was the only sibling that didn't) and chicken pox as well....which is another disease that creates hype when someone gets it.

Reality orientation. Measles can be accompanied by many comlications including death in one in 5000 infections.

Kids die every year playing sports. Football is the harshest.
