http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/newshome/14971086/turnbull-could-attract-green-preferences/ Greens preferences could flow the coalition's way at the next election if Malcolm Turnbull was to regain the Liberal leadership, party leader Christine Milne expects. Senator Milne said no formal preference deal had been done with the major parties yet. She believes Labor powerbrokers are desperately trying to get the Labor and Liberal parties to preference each other. "What that says to the community is that there's no difference between them in terms of policy," she told ABC TV. "They would rather have a Liberal senator in the Senate than a Green, where does that leave Labor people who are worried about WorkChoices and the extreme policies of Tony Abbott?" Asked if Labor could win government without Green preferences, Senator Milne declined to comment stating there were many X factors that could eventuate. "Let's see if Tony Abbott is actually still leading the coalition this time next year," Senator Milne said. If Malcolm Turnbull, who believes in tackling climate change, were to return to the Liberal leadership Greens preferences could flow his way regardless of any preference arrangement, Senator Milne said. "Green voters would be interested in that change," she said. "I also recognise that under his leadership he seriously browned down (Kevin Rudd's dumped) Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, his level of ambition was not as great as Kevin Rudd's. We have done a lot better since." She said the Greens were focused on increasing their primary vote. ===================================================================================== Abbott has done nothing but ridden on the coat tails of one of the most pathetic governments we have ever known. Turnbull hasn`t demonstrated any courage, conviction, connection, or commitment to any other than the narrow focus of the standard merchant banker. These clowns have nothing to offer. Conservatism is supposed to "conserve" the good things in this country, while proctecting our long term interests, this is not happening.
Oh no, does that mean Malcolm Turnbull is gay. A tree hugger, woe is me, the Liberals are selling out, God help us.
This bit fascinates me - is not the environment one of not just the "good things" of this country but the "best things" of this country? Would not then the Greens be a better option? But tell me just what are the "good things of this country" because I bet there would be less agreement over that than a mob of American Tea partiers arguing about the best hound dog
Love the bit about .....'the extreme policies of Tony Abbot'. That coming from the Greens!!! AAHAHAHHHAAA!Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! But doesn't it just make you sick the way Labor and the Greens are always down in the gutter playing personality politics. Listen to Big Tony, he says 'the Prime Minister', or 'Labor', or 'this government', or 'the Greens' he only mentions names in relation to particular issues, never on a generalised basis. He never goes in for the pathetic character assassination that we get endlessly from Labor and the Greens.
BB, the greens are living OFF the environment, not FOR it. The Nation needs sensible, professional Government, not howling, tearfull children running the country.
pft to the environment, factories, homes, mines and coal seam gas is what we need, money, gdp, income, income, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ not bloody trees
Like a good farmer / miner etc., by combining production with sustainable practice. Not by combining non production with tears and wrist flapping.
So what is "sustainable practice" because I see a lot of environmental degradation that is never cleaned up because the company put profits first or sold out without cleaning up the mess or...................
Thank you for your analogy, I can see you are with me now. I appreciate your comparison of shoddy companies (the ones who have no vested interest in conservation), who don`t fulfill the full range of their obligations, with the greens who only perform a cheap protest role, and fail in their governmental obligations. Your insight also applies to the subject of Abbott`s untested leadership qualities. As blind Freddy can see, Abbott has had no need to perform while he has been the leader of the oppossition. All he has needed to do, has been to sit back and watch a shambolic Government implode under it`s own ineptitude. in a very real sense, the greens and abbott have this in common, the lack of an obligation to perform, all they need to do is to sit around and protest.
This would have to be the sorriest excuse I have seen, of course he has had to perform, and he has, like a spoilt child.
Hmmm, the real problem are liberals or republicans, who deny any renewal, any consideration to move with the times. DV is right, its all about money, not about sensitive and well planned decision for our futures. We need the Greens, although at times they are a bit out of touch. A society, which isn't always asking itself also critical questions, which cannot learn out of mistakes, is a dying one. We can't move forward with Abbotts. Just a fact.... Enjoy your weekend
Cats, all politics is about money, that`s a no brainer, however, consrevation is imperative, not negotiable. It`s incumbent on all government of all levels to protect the environment, which is why the neglect of the feral animal / noxious plant issue, is so baffelling, particularly within National Parks, the breeding grounds for so many of these problems.
But underpinning this is a deep Aussie belief voiced by Don Chipp that we have to "Keep the Bastards honest" Cats is right - the Greens are our balance to the Corporate dollar seekers who would rape our country of all wealth. I have seen the messes that were never cleaned up - live right on top of more than a couple. Remember a fellow nurse (sadly lost to suicide from bullying) who did research into why there were so many birth abnormalities in Whyalla - seems that BP got a special "pollute for free" deal back in the days and the town paid with it's babies
Can`t see how my post was an avoidance of the post (which was totally off topic), so you must be talking about your own contribution, which was of zero consecuense, completely. Don`t know why you bothered with it.
My apologies, I forgot it was you, Aussie. No rules, no replies, just waffle. The topic was about the Greens and their preference deals. The post was about the Greens, with a quote from Don Chipp. So where does your remark about the Democrats come into it, unless it is to show you are at a loss for something intelligent to say so make a silly remark that is so way off topic.
I can see you are confused again. The post I was responding to, BB, yesterday / 11.12 AM, which compared the Democrat theme with the "function" of the Greens. You do know that Don Chipp was a Democrat, don`t you? As to the topic, it`s more of a critical look at the competance of the conservatives, the preferance issue is really only a side issue.
I've been waiting for you to respond to megadeth's question to you about rhinehart (totally legitimate question). So when it comes to avoidance, you are winning hands down Aussie!
