Get with the times, cave dwellers. "Donations-in-lieu-of-" ideas are growing more and more popular, and it's not limited to wedding favors. Until a formal request becomes a tax, we shouldn't be hearing any flack from the "charity over welfare" crowd.

That's pretty sad, by any measure.

On a positive note. This event officially marks the day Americans can no longer say their northerern neighbours are nuts.

    Un-believ-able.

If I was an Obama supporter, the only thing i would want is a lobotomy. This way i could use the scars as an excuse for why my political ideals were so stupid and misguided.

I would wager that the majority of Obama supporters are counting on their wedding gifts, specifically the $$$ ones, to bail themselves out of the financial rut that their weddings put them in. Stupid people like that tend to spend WAY more on weddings than they should due to their low self esteem and desire to be thought of as a high society type of person. Plusmtheir complete lack of a fiscal IQ doesnt help either.

What's next? Forego your Christmas gifts to add to Obama's campaign millions (already twice what Romney has raised)? Graduation gifts? Child's tooth fairy money? Birthday presents?
Some couples look forward to this "incessant crap" in order to begin their own home together.

Only Obama would have the guts to ask young married couples for a handout when he already has so much and only a moron would give to him.
The last election Obama reneged on a pledge to stay within FEC limits for fundraising. This news is shocking, but hardly surprising.

    Me neither.

I really don't enjoy getting gifts, so I usually tell people that if they insist on getting me something for birthday, anniversary, fathers' day, etc., to make a donation to one of my favorite causes.

Obama isn't my favorite cause, not by a longshot, but I can see that for some people it would be.

The thread is simply more Obama Derangement Syndrome.

This move by the Obama campaign is unprecedented in the annals of American political history, as far as I can tell. It is noteworthy because it shows the desperation exhibited by Obama to raise funds (after he took in an amazing and record breaking $750 million dollars against McCain) because the money spigot has been turned off by a public already burned once by this fraud.
Obama derangement syndrome? Hardly. It is evidence of Obama's declining appeal to a public weary of his act.

Or it is a rather smart marketing gimmick.

I don't see what's "smart" about seeming so desperate for campaign funds that you will have the chutzpah to stoop to this unprecedented level to get your grubby fingers on more money.
As I already said, I wonder if handing over your children's birthday presents or an appeal for "Plasma for Obama" is coming next?
It seems amazingly desperate...because it is.

It's unprecedented for politicians to ask people to collect money for them? You must not be paying attention.

    Body parts.
Obama has a lot of rich financiers (the correct 1%) who are in desperate need of life saving body parts. Pledge a liver or a lung to them and they donate to his campaign.

It's absolutely unprecedented to collect donations in this particular way. You've got to be kidding that you pretend this move is just another example of fundraising and it's desperate to claim it is. What's next? Selling hair or blood for Obama?

Face it, Obama is a Chicago-style political whore..he will even 'bend over' (no pun, just a fact) to get re-elected...

Or, more likely, he will bend you over to get what he wants.

Oh please. Obama is asking parents to take Christmas gifts away from kids just to get himself elected. He wants to deprive people of gifts because he is the ultimate gift that keeps on giving. He wants charity so that he can increase welfare.

He can use this untactful tactic all he wants. It is a sign of a desperate man. He is free to ask whatever he wants and people are free to be stupid enough to grant him his wish. Whatever. But to not give him any flack for it because you think we shouldn't give our opinion? Get real. You'd rather we give him our gifts and give you our right of free speech.

He wants to stimilate the economy by asking people to not buy things and give him the money instead.

Or maybe hitting the donation cans set up in many places for the Salvation Army for loose change. Bet he wouldn't even ashamed to have his pitchure pasted on them.

Yeah, you sure got that right! This is a new low I'd never heard b/f and I'm sure no one else has either - until Obama came along....

To suggest to newly weds that they should pass up gifts that would help them furnish their new home and instead have the $ given to HIM is CHEAP and GREEDY! That guy obviously doesn't have any pride or character.....

What happened to his billionaire pal, George Soros? Didn't he kick in enuf $$ to make this tacky beggar happy?
