The 124 golf courses in the Coachella Valley consume roughly 17 percent of all water there, and one quarter of the water pumped out of the region’s at-risk groundwater aquifer, according to the Coachella Valley Water District. Statewide, roughly one percent of water goes to keep golf courses green. Each of the 124 Coachella Valley courses, on average, uses nearly 1 million gallons a day due to the hot and dry climate, 3-4 times more water per day than the average American golf course.

LOS BANOS, Calif. (AP) — Warning that weather-related disasters will only get worse, President Barack Obama said Friday the U.S. must rethink the way it uses water as he announced new federal aid to help drought-stricken California.

Obama drew a clear connection between California's troubles and climate change as he toured part of a farm that will go unsown this year as the state faces its worst drought in more than 100 years. Even if the U.S. takes action now to curb pollution, the planet will keep getting warmer "for a long time to come" thanks to greenhouse gases that have already built up, Obama said.

"We're going to have to stop looking at these disasters as something to wait for. We're going to have to start looking at these disasters as something to prepare for," Obama

So the golf courses, which are a major source for tourism and income for the community, ARE in fact taking efforts to reduce the amount of drinking water they are using and sacrificing as Obama has asked.

So they reduced their water consumption from 1,000,000 gallons a day to how much? Can you tell me what sacrifices Obama made when he played on these golf courses in the middle of the desert?

 

So if Obama "sacrificed" (not my word, yours) and didn't golf there, the water wouldn't have been used? Wow, that's neat, I didn't know a Golf Course only was in business for when a president showed up.

The facts are Obama flew in his 727 using thousands of gallons of "globe warming" fossil fuel to California to lecture them that they need to make some sacrafices during their drought. Then to lead by example he went golfing on at least two golf courses that use a million gallons of water a day and are sucking the desert aquifer dry.

 

Or he could of stayed in DC and not made a carbon footprint the size of a thousand average citizens. It was a good excuse to play golf on desert courses that use a million gallons of water a day though huh

How about the fact that if Obama didn't play Golf on the course, the water would STILL HAVE BEEN USED. See, Obama Deranged Syndrome is a real disorder, you and Sawyer should get checked out. Rewarding these courses, despite their terrible usage of the very water Barack is there to protect by preaching "shared sacrifice" during a drought, is stupid.

Everyone needs time to relax, it is very stressful to be a politician, and, imagine being up at all hours when you are at home with people phoning you with decisions to make? this guy gets no time management, does he? the golf course is there, why not use it?

How would you feel if you passed out every five minutes with the pressure and stress? even the pope has to make time for himself. even social workers need time for themselves, being thrown around verbally by ungrateful people that have a high demand for needs, yes, but it is still stressful. volunteers only give so much of their time and energy, yes?

 

So there's no golf courses a short drive from DC? He has to fly his own 727 across the country and burn thousands of gallons of jet fuel to play golf? Are you really serious or is this satire?
