I don't quite get this, Obama is against guns yet he releases and commutes sentences of those convicted of gun related crimes.

"On Monday, Barack Obama set a new record for the number of pardons and commutations granted in a single day by bestowing pardons on 78 federal prisoners and reducing the sentences of 153 others. Among the prisoners granted clemency were 54 serving life terms."

"Their convictions include multiple counts of knowingly disposing of a firearm to a felon and falsification of firearm background check forms; use of a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking offense; unlawfully transporting firearms; possession of a stolen firearm; felon in possession of a firearm; possession with intent to distribute cocaine base; and even involuntary manslaughter."

Perhaps it is time for the united states to simply do away with its firearm-based restrictions, as they are going unenforced on all levels. Apparently government has determined that there is no longer any legitimate reason to prohibit firearms access to prohibited individuals.

There is a simple explanation for it. Chicago shootings are at an all-time high - 60 shootings this Christmas weekend with 12 dead. Chicago has to be running short of bangers and guns and we have to go tap a proven source.

So should we change the Costitution and do not grant any president the power of the pardon?

Should we institute a law that says anyone who commits a crime with a gun regardless of whether or not anyone gets hurt, shall never ever get out of prison until the guy dies?

    Your comments?

I would have no problem limiting presidential pardons to maybe 25 or 30 times. This pardon mill nonsense needs to end. This is abuse of his power.

Isn't any restriction to access to the right to bear firearms for any person what so ever a violation of the 2d amendment.

The second amendment forbids any infringement to the right to bear arms. The Constitution does not say that a criminal can be restricted from bearing arms. The Constitution does not say that insane people are not allowed to bear arms.

No citizen should be restricted from bearing arms for any reason. We either live by the Constitution or not.

I say that we must live by the Constitution or we shall not be great.

Ok but what if the POTUS was a female should chicks get more pardons? Do we gear the number of pardons based on political party?

Then why didn't he pardon all gun felons? Why didn't he work with a Republican Congress to overturn all federal gun laws? Why didn't he tell BATF to stop enforcing those laws the way he did with DEA and recreational Marijuana laws and INS with immigration laws?

Throw open the gates and cancel police services. Let's see what happens.

One things for sure, there won't be any progressives left when it's over.

Thanks for going on the record defending Obama releasing violent killers back into society.

No, the right believes in enforcing laws and the penalties that go with them. It's the left that likes to let repeat offenders stay on the streets where they can create more victims.

It is no exaggeration to state that the united states supreme court, for quite some time, has been bending over backwards to explain how a great many laws do not in any way violate the constitution, even when common sense would hold otherwise.

Yup. Leave it to President Obama to abuse the power of the Executive branch, even as the left tries to make the case for why we should worry about President Elect Trump doing the exact same thing.

No, it is not. All freedoms come with restrictions. The freedom I have to spin around with my arms held out ends at the tip of your nose. My freedom of speech does not include screaming "FIRE!" in a crowded theater.

So President Obama finds it desirable to ignore the will of the people. Those 54 convicted felons who were serving life sentences, they had their day in court, correct? They presented their case to a jury of their peers, correct? But the President knows better, because he's the President? The man talks a good game, even as he decides to torpedo anything related to law and order. Thanks a lot, Mr. President; don't let the door hit you in the arse on your way out...

Yes, unenforced at all levels. But only for the next 24 days, after which there's a new Sheriff coming to town, and he's a bit more serious about properly addressing law and order issues...

How will Donald Trump motivate prosecutors to pursue firearm-related offenses, when the standard operating procedure is to drop all firearm-related charges, and issue a plea bargain to expedite a conviction at reduced charges?

Brilliant and an application of Occam's Razor. The bangers were well on their way to easily breaking the 800 homicide for the year mark, but losing their shooting jones in December. Bringing up some readily available "talent" makes sense.

Perhaps he is looking for candidates to beef up his out-of-office security detail.
