Obama to Give Major Jobs Speech

Seeking a jolt for a wilting economy, President Barack Obama will give a major speech in early September to unveil new ideas for speeding up job growth and helping the struggling poor and middle class, a senior administration official told The Associated Press.

The president's plan is likely to contain tax cuts, jobs-boosting infrastructure ideas and steps that would specifically help the long-term unemployed. The official emphasized that all of Obama's proposals would be fresh ones, not a rehash of plans he has pitched for many weeks and still supports, including his "infrastructure bank" idea to finance construction jobs.

On a significant and related front, Obama will also present a specific plan to cut the suffocating long-term national debt and to pay for the cost of his new short-term economic ideas.

His debt proposal will be bigger than the $1.5 trillion package that a new "supercommittee" of Congress must come up with by late November.

The president will then spend his fall publicly pressing Congress to take action as the economic debate roars into its next phase. Both the economic ideas and the plan to pay for them will be part of Obama's speech, although the address will focus mainly on the jobs components.

Well, what's your take on this? More smoke and mirrors, or will Obama sell out the progressives? Will Obama move to the center in an attempt to save his hide?

Hey, progressives, are you for more tax cuts? Won't Obama's plan to cut the debt hurt the economic recovery? Isn't that the progressive mantra?

It basically looks like stimulus part 2.

What is with Obama and infrastructure jobs? oh thats right, they help out unions.

Has Obama done anything to help regular hard working citizens that are no part of a union?

Another SPEECH(!) "plan"...a "major" one no less. BAHHHHH.....His only plan is winning next Nov and he'll say anything to accomplish that goal.

Me thinks he will throw a lot (*)(*)(*)(*) at the wall, most of it will be rehash of previous BS, see what sticks and then sit back and join in the media chorus of BLAMING rep's for failing to pass "his" phantom plan.

I agree. He has been blabbing instead of leading for his whole term. He's basically a national joke.

Nearly 3 years into his term and NOW he's coming up with a BIG plan? Too little, too late. At this point, his only hope is repairing what his administration's already screwed up.

Does anybody actually listen to anything he says anymore? I think not... he's like that steady hum of an a/c... after a period of time, you don't even hear it.

    Great post!

He's done a terrible job, and he's going to feel the wrath of the voters in 2012.
