The Hill: Obama vetoes 9/11 bill

President Obama on Friday vetoed legislation that would allow families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia in U.S courts, setting up a high-stakes showdown with Congress.

“I recognize that there is nothing that could ever erase the grief the 9/11 families have endured," Obama wrote in his veto message. "Enacting JASTA into law, however would neither protect Americans from terrorist attacks nor improve the effectiveness of our response to such attacks."

Obama’s move opens up the possibility that lawmakers could override his veto for the first time with a two-thirds vote in both chambers.

Republican and Democratic leaders have said they are committed to holding an override vote, and the bill’s drafters say they have the support to force the bill to become law.

The Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) unanimously passed through both chambers by voice vote.

Obama sides with the most oppressive, most fundamentalist Muslim nation in the world against U.S. citizens whose family members were murdered by Saudi Muslims. No surprise. But if you think he is secretly a Muslim, that's racisss

If this bill is passes. Wouldn't that leave the US open to be sued by those 60 Syrian soldiers families the US killed last week? We're not at war with Syria.

The lawsuit was absurd. If Saudi Arabia was responsible for 9-11 it's war, not a lawsuit. The 9-11 attack was significantly worse than Pearl Harbor.

    I don't know because I am not a lawyer.

My guess would be that I think it is already common practice to sue the US government in US courts, even before this bill passes.

On the other hand, the US being sued in other countries' courts is not changed one way or another by any change to US law but only by the law of that other country, which is out of US hands anyway.

Believing that Obama would side with Americans who lost their loved ones against the Saudis , is like asking the most die-hard Red Socks fan to root for the Yankees.

Anticipating your point for many years, I have prepared a war strategy for consideration.

I advise that the US government could do any or all of these -
    • put the name of the country "Saudi Arabia" on the state sponsor of terrorism list
    • cancel the arms sales and other trade with Saudi Arabia
    • break off diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia
    • seize as compensation for 9/11 all Saudi oil tankers exporting oil from the Persian gulf, the US Navy choosing the best ocean location to seize the oil tankers where there's no air cover from the Saudi air force
    • do the same for any oil tanker belonging to a country or company that is continuing to trade with Saudi Arabia
    • set a policy of regime change of Saudi Arabia
    • seize control over all Saudi TV satellites and use them to broadcast US-friendly Arab revolutionaries (for democracy, republics and secular-states) to call on the Arab military of Saudi Arabia to arrest the Saudi royals and arrest their Salafist, pro-jihadi terrorist clerics who have been previously broadcasting anti-American views on satellite TV
    • consider missile strikes against prestigious Saudi targets - royal palaces and universities (seminaries) of jihad
    • if the Saudi military declare war against us then take them out using missiles and air power but there's no actual need to invade with ground forces

But whether or not we intend to go to war against Saudi Arabia, I think it is right to pass the 9/11 bill anyway - that is the least that must be done for the 9/11 families. :salute:

If they the KSA heads could be held culpable for the horrendous deeds before,
then it's quite rational and could be executed. They will just deny and place things in limbo if there are no concrete basis just innuendos and hearsays.

The U.S. gets trashed all the time anyway. Other nations are always piling on us and so in the words of Hillary Clinton, "What difference does it make now?"

I definitely think that someone needs to refresh your memory before you commit another monumental mistake in November 2016. You'd better stay at home.

    Irony of the Year

The irony of the day, week, month and year is Hillary’s statement “I Know How to Do This“.

Hillary supported Bush’s inane war in Iraq.
Hillary supported Bush’s inane war in Afghanistan.
Hillary was the mastermind of US failed strategy in Libya.
Hillary is the single person most responsible for Benghazi.
Hillary supports president Obama’s drone policy.
There has never been a war Hillary did not support.

The most surefire way to make a terrorist out of a non-terrorist is to kill an innocent child or bomb an innocent person’s home. Doing so is sure to radicalize friends and family.

Do you think that should have been our response to the attack on Pearl Harbor too?

Well there is a concrete basis.

    Check out

Wikipedia - Alleged Saudi role in September 11 attacks

    Wikipedia - State-sponsored terrorism - Saudi Arabia

So it is not the lack of a concrete basis or their denials which is keeping the heads of the KSA in limbo, it is President Obama.

My war strategy could be executed if we had a rational American president faithfully executing the office of president, who had the ability to get and take good counter-terrorism security advice - that protecting the people from terrorism requires rooting out the source of terrorism - the state sponsors of terrorism, such as the KSA - by regime-changing those states.

Instead the President is Obama, who is faithful to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who has a limited ability, who is getting and taking poor security advice, who is denying 9/11 families justice and who is denying the American people the leadership to win the war on terrorism that's needed.

To win, in war or in anything, it's the moves you or your commanders make that matter much more than any move your enemy makes.
