I guess he didn't learn enough from Solyndra. Now he and his left wing cronies (Harry Reid) are preparing to lend $5B to the next eventual government loss. It's not enough that you can fly from LA nd Vegas on Southwest for as low as $69 and will be cheaper than a plane. Or that you can drive there in 4 hours (less than 3 hours to Victorville). The real kicker is that it's 100 miles from LA. So first you have to drive 100 miles and then pay $100 to take another 1 hour train.

So $100 to save about an hour and a half in driving time. Plus having to pay cab fares once you get there. Plane vs train: about $30 cheaper with an hour and a half saved. Can you say freaking bust? Liberals are laughable when they have the nerve to mutter concers over debt out of one sides of their mouth and support money wasting boondoggles lke this out of the other side.

The Meglev would be a great transportation tool but a train to Victorville is garbage.

Why do liberals want to build a train linking Vegas (a place they hate) and Disneyland (a place they hate)?

There must a boat load of politicians that stand to make a barge load of money off this boondoggle.

this is just more pork for the Botox poster child pelosi and harry reid. Would have made a lot more sense to do a DC to NY train. Even that would have probably been epic fail but not to the extent this fiasco will be

I have no doubt that without republican interference the democrats would triple our debt.

They just simply do not care how much they spend. Ask them how much spending is enough and they just get this blank look and stare off into space.

    They are out of control.

Well, it would give the desert dwellers something to do. They can sit on their porch and watch the train zip by..and their kids can put pennies on the track...and .22 rounds..always fun. Other than supplying that entertainment, I doubt that hundreds of people per day will be shuffling between Vegas and DisneyLand

Your analysis assumes that air travel will continue to be cheap, and gas prices will not increase substantially in the medium-term future. This seems unlikely to hold true.

Will they have federal marshals on board?

Without them...or the ability to open carry...being locked in a moving box in Obama's "united, post-racial America" doesn't sound too appealing.

Distance from LA to Vegas is 270 miles. A mediocre vehicle getting 20 MPG will need to burn 13.5 gallons of gas. Even if gas is $5/gallon it will cost $135 round trip and you'll have the vehicle to get around in if you want.

Plus there is the convenience factor of driving. You go when you want. No train schedule to worry about. No getting groped by TSA agents. Because you know (*)(*)(*)(*)ed well you'll be going through a TSA line to board the train on a $5 billion [he snickers] project.

With traffic and gas over 5 dollars a gallon as well as even more inflated gas prices in California. It would be the best way to travel and also be a key to keeping Las Vegas viable in the future.
When this is scheduled to be completed, gas prices are projected to be out of control and few people will be considering interstate travel at 6-7 dollars per gallon.
Meglev only to me, a train to Victorville will never work but America needs to plan ahead and build a high speed train system for passenger travel.

And a vehicle you'll have to find a place to park, which itself isn't free. It's not like getting around the tourist sections of Vegas is all that hard on foot. Let's not ignore the fact that you actually have to drive, rather than sit back and let someone else do the driving while you watch a movie on your laptop or something. Driving around Vegas traffic is really not the sort of thing I'd want to do on vacation anyway.

For a dedicated line like that, there would probably be a few per day. Let's not ignore the hassle factor of driving either. Personally I'd much rather be at the station in time to catch the train than have to drive the whole way there and back in a car I can't walk around in. sure, the food and drinks may be overpriced, but at least you can stretch your legs when you walk back to get them.

You don't get groped by TSA agents on a train. There is practically no security on trains. They occasionally have spot-checks from some roaming TSA teams, but it's nothing even remotely close to airport security and normally they're not even present. You can even open carry on trains (at least on Amtrak, a private line might have different rules).

Why? You're not groped by TSA agents when boarding any other train in the US.

There are both on Amtrak, I'm not sure why this would differ substantially.

Seriously, you people are afraid to take a train?

It's a generic train love. Leftwads are forever envisioning a future full of trains....that their neighbor takes, freeing up the freeway for their Prius.

No to mention union thugs. Count on 'prevailing wage' rules for everything.

Few posts demonstrate the sheer immaturity of republicans as well as this one.

Of course it will be a good thing- people from LA will take it to go spend money in Vegas, and people from Vegas will use it to take a trip to Disneyland, increasing sales in both states.

It's only bad for people with no monetary self control.

Too bad it's going to cost the state FAR more than it will ever gain.

I hope that they build it...then I hope Disney closes down DisneyLand to get away from the Mexican gangs that will eventually over run the place. Then there;ll be a 'Bullet Train' from Vegas to Anaheim...all spray painted with graffiti and Mexican gang signs.... The Anaheim terminal will provide a nice place to camp out for the homeless.

No actually it doesn't assume that. Gas is at an all time high and airfare is still cheaper. Was that the best you could come up with to defend this liberal mess?

No post demonstrates liberal intellectual fraud as much as this one. You have yet to explain why anyone would take a train that you have to drive 100 miles to get to.

hahahhahahahah yeah right, the only AMTRACK route in the entire system that makes a profit is the Meteroliner. Every other route operates at a loss

I did a fare search and as of this post you can fly roundtrip LA to Las Vegas for 110 dollars, so I am sure people will bust their butts to take the boondoggle train

Offset by the cost of parking at the new train station. You really don't think that is going to be free do you? Thing is the casinos don't charge for parking anyway, so it's moot.

You will be, especially for a dedicated bullet train like this. One explosion and you'll be groped at ALL train stations.

I imagine any terrorist observing this project knows this also. Can you imagine the fear and dread that would follow detonating a bomb aboard the prestigious billion dollar bullet train? It would an irresistible target to take out.

That would instantly change when the left's shiny new toy gets blown up somewhere west of Las Vegas.

Diverting attention from boondoggles like this are why the Trayvon cases goes on without evidence.

Few posts demonstrate the sheer economic immaturity of leftwads as well as this one. The state's cost are not even considered. It's FREE MONEY! PARTY!
