Choosing substance over performance is a novel thing in a world fixated on drama, flash and shiny objects. Mitt Romney unleashed a tsunami of animated policy reversals during the first Presidential debate. On Friday October 5, 2012 President Obama answered loudly when the September unemployment rate came in at 7.8%, the lowest in 44 months.

I would be estatic for my fellow Americans.... IF it was true.

You cannot only add 118K jobs when 150K is required to break even and drop unemployment by .3 - You are defying mathematics.

If you can prove otherwise I'll donate 20$ to this site, but if you can't find proof that the number is cooked, then stop saying it is, because in America we have something called innocent until proven guilty.

It is not important, at least to Obama, he could care less about anyone who is suffering. He wants to multiply suffering for Americans in transitioning us to being like socialist Europe. I wish I had $20 to donate to this site, though I would place no conditions on doing it within the context of a wager anyway.

It's just as legit as all of them since they dropped 9 million people from being counted.

Yeah, tell that to Harry Reid when he started a rumor with the national media that he "heard that Romney hasn't paid any income tax in the last 10 years". So tell us again about how that innocent until proven guilty stuff works. LOL!

So if that number is revised in the next two weeks, do you still plan on donating $20 to this site?

Douglas Holtz-Eakin, who was chief economist on President George W. Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers in 2001-2002, said it wasn’t uncommon to have numerical surprises in the monthly Labor Department data.
“I’ve never been one of those who felt that the numbers get doctored,” he said on Bloomberg Television. “These are professionals. They do this as a career. I have a lot of respect for them. But like any other enterprise, every now and then you just get a weird number, and this one makes no sense.”

I assume that you are referring to the conspiracy nuts out there who are floating the theory that Obama supporters somehow rigged the results:

    http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/ar...conspiracies-on-unemployment-rate-3923567.php

I have to agree that the numbers are correct. But do they actually say something positive?

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/10/05/us-usa-economy-idUSBRE8930PZ20121005

Effectively, there are more part-time jobs out there AND the labor participation rate (percentage of the potential job-working population working or looking for work) must have dropped a little yet again. The most interesting statistic is that for the first nine months of 2012 there are still fewer jobs than there were for the first nine months of 2011 (aren't we supposed to be recovering?).

So PropagandaMachine can hang onto his $20 because he is technically correct, but in truth the economy is still spinning its wheels.

I lived under socialism, and Obama is not a socialist. Neither is anywhere in Europe. Welcome to 2012.
Not only does he not cite his sources, but this is a survey, which means that the numbers are self-reported by the people being surveyed. Attempting to change the way that unemployment rate is calculated does not prove the numbers were intentionally cooked.
No, I said that if someone can show me proof that the number was intentionally cooked to make Obama look better I would. You can clearly read, and that's clearly not what my first post said, so why do you ask stupid questions?
Thank you. Too be sure, I never claimed the numbers were good, I just think that the jobbers are another ridiculous conspiracy akin to the birthers and the pollers. Its ridiculous how when the numbers are in their favor they think they're fine, but when they don't support their twisted world view they're automatically rigged or fake. These people need to grow up and face reality. 7.8% isn't even that great, the only reason they're angry is because Obama said that he'd get the unemployment rate below 8% and now that he did one of their major talking points is gone.

What ever line you are trying to communicate on is obviously disconnected from reality. As an example, we have an irrelavent threat, a denial of a political and social reality, having no idea how unemployment numbers are calculated, and insults that are not even thinly vailed, and I'll throw in a clear and sad total sellout to a failed and incompetent leftist loser Obama presidency.

You do realize the number is based on a survey and survey's are noted for having a +/- error rate of around 4% don't you?

    Aug 142,000 - 8.2%
    Sep 114,000 - 7.6%

Are you saying that it would be very difficult to add fewer jobs from one month to the next, while more young people are looking for work, and have the number of unemployed drop?

Our thread parent seems to be a little confused at best. He throws this universally doubted conclusion out here and expects us to see his wisdom. Two of the people who generated these numbers are well known BH Obama supporters. Case closed.

I'm not insulting or attempting to insult anyone. I don't like Obama. I don't think the numbers are cooked, and I've seen no proof to the contrary. Now if you want to show me some and convince me of my error, please do, otherwise please leave the thread.
I'm not confused, I'm asking you for proof that the numbers are cooked, you've provided none. If they are cooked there must be evidence, find some. Its not a universally doubted conclusion, and I know exactly how its calculated. SO less baseless accusations, more facts please.
I'm asking for proof that the number has been INTENTIONALLY COOKED.

    That fuzzy math again?

Since your spinning numbers why don't you just spin it to something like 4.3% which would really make your guy look good?
