An odd thing, at the very end, after he declares the join session dissolved, he comes back to the mic and says, "God save the queen". Why would he do that? I found myself wishing that the Gentlewomen from California and Texas would be escorted out of the joint session. Exactly how many times must one be told that there is no debate during a joint session? How many times must one be told that a Senator's signature must be on any objection? Nice attempt at derailing the proceedings, and an excellent job by the President of the Senate in keeping things moving. And I, too, found the "God save the queen" comment more than a little strange. What does the queen have to do with the price of tea in China?
The queen of England is very ill that's why. Perhaps the last act of civility and class we'll see in DC over the next 4 years.
