Ohio health official estimates 100,000 Ohioans already carrying coronavirus

Less than 10,000 according to the CDC and those test numbers have been decreasing in recent days.

There is no reporting system in place to know the results of privately conducted tests.

 

The Governor stood beside her while she said it and then tweeted it out himself.

It's about 14,000 that have been tested. That doesn't back her hysterical claim that there are 100,000 people infected in just that one state.

Coronavirus does not spread easier than influenza. Read the literature.

Antiviral drugs are used in Coronavirus treatment. Read CDCs and WHOs guidance on clinical treatment.

Just stop, seriously. Panic will do more harm than the virus. You are spreading panic, methinks you are a virus, a more lethal virus.

An estimate? Well I think it's time to crash the economy so we can all blame it on Trump. Stock market is currently 1,110 and that wasn't supposed to happen. Democrat fearmongering was supposed to do better than this and everything is even shutting down.

How many have gone to the doctor with symptoms and are under investigation? Do you think people get sick and continue their daily lives or do you think they go visit a doctor or stay home until they think they're well? Do you think Trump (or his administration) should go door to door testing every household or do you think people have the ability to take themselves to the doctor?

You people act like Trump is sending out secret messages to people demanding that they don't get tested.

Ninety thousand, that wouldn't even be noticed if they all just disappered.. They could lose a BILLION and still have a population greater then ours! Put things in to perspective and pay more attention to numbers and less to useless propaganda!

This is the only reason I take it seriously and don't mind seeing schools close. However, they're only closing for 3 weeks which, in my opinion, is stupid. This won't be fixed in 3 weeks.

What I don't take seriously are the apocalyptic claims coming with this. H1N1 hung around for a year and a half, infected over 61,000,000 and killed more than 12,500 and nothing shut down. That could very well be why everything is starting to close though, because the outbreak of 2009-10 gave us an example of what not to do. We'll see where it goes.

China has a biological weapons factory just outside of....Wuhan. I believe they let this one get away from them. Biological weapons have to kill the opposing army's troops and go away quickly so their troops don't get the virus when they move in to the area.

You ask a valid question, and the frightening truth is that even if we "tested" every person in the United States this minute, what would the results of those "tests" actually TELL us?

We still don't know at what point in the infection cycle we can even conduct valid, accurate tests! Some researchers say a person can be infected and exhibit NO symptoms at all for 14 days... some say 21 days... and some say the virus can simply sit there in the body, totally 'dormant' for 24 days -- or even longer than that!

What do we KNOW about this virus? We know that it is very transmissible (but we don't even know all the ways it can be transmitted), that it is ten times more lethal than 'the flu', and that it can survive on a variety of different kinds of surfaces, and even in the open air for days, if not weeks!

Conclusion: we do not, as yet, know what the hell we are doing, but everybody is blaming everybody else for everything imaginable....

There are some strains of the flu which are less virulent, H1N1 for example, but COVID-19 does spread easier than most strains of the flu virus.

 

She is the director of Health and she is intimately aware about the number of tests being conducted nationally. At 14,000 tests, that is an average of 42 per million in the US. There is no way that you can use that low of a number to just declare that the tests don't back up her claim.

The H1N1 has a mortality rate of 0.01%.

On the low end, COVID has a mortality rate of 1%. That is 100x more deadly...on the low end.

 

And I have no problem with that so long as you are also prepared and willing to isolate yourself and your family for 2-3 weeks so that you do not risk spreading the virus to folks like my mother who are elderly and immunocompromised.
