I think this is an issue upon which both the left and right can agree.

Most of our elected officials have no idea what the real world is like. They spend 6 to 8 years receiving some kind of education, work in their respective fields (which somehow amount to becoming local elected officials), and spend the next 30+ years in some type of federal employment. They become the special few being coddled by the system, and do not understand what it is truly like to live in America. This isn't a left/right or rich/poor thing. This is an issue of perceived reality, and I don't trust people who live in a staged version of reality making decisions for the population.

You can see a more common version of this with veterans. When most of us retire, we don't know how real health coverage works, we don't know how to build our acquired skills and experience into a resume, and we generally don't know how to do all the things that the military used to take care of for us. The difference is that veterans are not afforded the benefits that politicians get post retirement. I digress, the federal government turns people into confused and lost children when it comes to most real world issues.

Does anyone else agree with my sentiment or do you prefer people who are experienced in political bull(*)(*)(*)(*)tery making decisions that impact your life?
