Well, this thread is about how liberals are complaining about the makeup of the Oscar's. It isn't good enough for them and it is decided by popular vote:
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Awards#Rules

....when liberal's favored candidate loses they still complain and want the popular vote. Liberals will always complain when they do not get their way. The process is meaningless to them. That is very UnAmerican.

yes, and I was comparing it to the electoral college

do you think the Oscars should be decided by the most votes or affirmative action?

    I say most votes

now, they can add other categories, like most liked racially diverse movie, ect.....

but don't say the most liked movie is not the most like movie, cause it's not diverse enough, that is just silly

Black Panther was a great movie, no affirmative action needed, just make great movies

It’s a stupid awards show that people watch for reasons that totally escape me.

Hollywood is still traumatized by the communist witch hunts from almost 70 years ago and want revenge for eternity on anything conservative.

Simply not watching the Oscars robs this nonsense of fuel.

    Inattention kills most bad media.

Popular vote is popular vote and liberals are complaining about everything. It is childish behavior and should not be rewarded.

And democrats defeated at elections will bring about peace. Vote all of them out of office.

    @doombug
    Agreed
I can guarantee you there will be a major war if Biden is elected because Biden will use it as cover for his failures or enemies will correctly perceive that the US has a weak administration.

The latter is proven by his lack of attention and even tacit support for the riots.

If I were an enemy of the US my strategic thought would be to strike while the iron is hot.

Sorry for the non sequitur as this thread is about the Oscars.

Back on track now. The Oscars are pointless. Why pay attention to the showmanship?

Ignore the man behind the curtain :)

By the time liberals are done with the Oscar's the award will be nothing more than a participation trophy anyway. Completely meaningless.

I have no idea what your complaining about, do you agree with me or not?

I think the movie with the popular vote should win...

The award should be decided on by the method used. Complaining when one does not get their way is not the way to do it.

The last movie I went through all the bullshit of actually going to a theater to watch was the last "Hobbit" movie, in 2014.

About all that Hollywood has churned out for the last decade has been warmed-over, mind-numbing "Superhero" crap for dumbed-down Millennials and Gen-Z'ers.

But, in a larger sense, this has been coming on for DECADES! In the movies, almost all the negroes are downtrodden, misunderstood, mistreated, and, good. . And, by contrast, in the movies, almost all the white guys (especially the ones over 50) are conniving, power-mad, rich, and, bad! :furious:

We've gone from being a nation of "Father knows best" to "Father knows NOTHING", and he should move over, and let his estranged wife make all the decisions, usually under the protection of some wise, beneficent negro who ultimately "rides in to save the day"....

Be happy that, so far, we're not being FORCED at gunpoint to feed our minds with this crap! Hint: vote with your WALLET!

To me it is rather irrelevant. There was a time when Oscar winning movies had substantial cultural impact. That time is past. Neither of my kids watch Hollywood movies and neither do their friends. They watch youtubers as do I.

2020 had viewership drop to 23 million. In 1970 more than 40% of Americans watched the Oscars, that number is now less than 10%. This is what a fatal death spiral looks like. What is breathtaking is the speed in which the relevance of the Oscars and Hollywood itself is being erased.

What we are seeing is the dilution of original thought. Coming up with unique and clever ideas is hard but trotting out anti racism themes is easy when there is a captive audience carefully engineered to think this is better. An older white male or worse a heterosexual white male who is a Christian will be villainized sure as shooting. You are correct. Hollywood is buck conscious but it will take the boycott of politically correct movies to shut down its PC imperative. The good movies pay for their addiction to virtue signaling. Cut that cancer out!!

Liberalism might as well be a religion. There are many zealots who want to push their beliefs onto society. Liberals are using force to advance their religion and gain power via the democrat party.

I would rather watch porn videos starring barnyard animals than nearly anything on American television today.

Fortunately, there are still some very good dramatic series being produced in Britain....

Yes, and in lib-pestholes like Washington D. C. they'll even barge into restaurants and proselytize people at random, who are just trying to eat their food! They just can't stand the idea that nobody of any consequence CARES what the hell they think, about anything....

What was the last movie that members here saw that they thought was excellent?

    Did the academy agree?

Excellent? The last movie, in English, shown in America, that I thought was "excellent"...? Hmm... that will require some digging.

The most recent movie that I thought was overall "excellent" may have been Peter Jackson's "The Return of the King" (2003).

I have well over a thousand DVD's and Blu-ray disks in my collection. But, I have bought exactly TWO new ones in the last twelve months, if that tells you anything.... And, probably less than five in the two years before that (additions of old movies I've always wanted that were finally released on Region 1 disks).

Very, very few movies made in the last twenty years in THIS country have been even worth the time it takes to watch them -- once....

Preferring movies be rated on the quality, instead of the diversity, is a religion, now?

This has been happening on TV for years. How often, since the 90s, have you seen an actual unapologetic masculine character? Joey from Friends and Kramer from Seinfeld may be the closest, and the writers made them half retarded. Instead, for years we got doofuses like Ray Barone, Doug Heffernen, etc, that couldn't tie their shoes without the help of their wives
