Actors are only as good as the material, or I should say a great actor can make a bad script ok but a great script can make a bad actor seem good.
I don't know about that. In some ways you are right, but a bad actor is going to be a bad actor no matter what he/she says, IMO. And not everyone is going to be funny. You have to have a funny personality and a sense of humor to be a comedian.
Like I said a bad actor with a great script and good editing team can seem decent. Like Punch Drunk Love made Sandler seem ok as an actor, even though he is horrible.
New JJ Abrams Star Trek way over-rated - Quinto and Nimoys scene together? Terribly acted, witten, implausible and nonsensical unwatchable scene. No disrespect intended - you're entitled to your opinion - but did you have a few cocktails before the film? I am sober! Nimoy was probably paid a sizeable chunk of change to lend credibility to the new cast of neophyte actors. But was Nimoy this hard up for cash? Anyhow - amateur director JJ Abrams obviously has had no exposure to the greatest eschelon of Sci-Fi and Fantasy novelists. Have you? For starters - w/ regards to 'heros journey' (Joseph Campbell) archetype, I'd recommend "The Silver Warriors: A Tale of the Eternal Champion," by Michael Moorcock. Coincidentally - the hero (like Star Wars VII) is a black guy. A good place to begin reading the saga of some 12 odd Eternal Champion multi-verse novellas, also read some other 'Weird Tales' genre of Sci-Fi/Fantasy like 'the Best of HP Lovecraft' and Fritz Leibers "Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser" series. Piers Anthonys 'On a Pale Horse' series also is very unique and imaginative. The Silver Warriors by Michael Moorcock https://www.amazon.com/Silver-Warriors-Michael-Moorcock/dp/0425101460 ...
I strongly disagree about comedians not being good actors. I find them, in general, to be terrific at dramatic roles. I would single out Robin Williams as maybe the best example. Others I think are really good in dramatic roles include Steve Martin, Lily Tomlin, Richard Pryor, Martin Short, Louie C. K., Andrew "Dice" Clay, Jerry Lewis, Sarah Silverman, to name a few.
Some of the actors I think are overrated, that is to say they get more acclaim than they deserve, include John Wayne, Vince Vaughn (I like him better in dramatic roles than comedies), Owen Wilson (I like Luke Wilson, though!), Russell Brand, Mark Wahlberg (does he have to be in EVERYTHING?), Jonah Hill (in comedies; I like him better in dramas), Channing Tatum, and anybody who looks the same in every role, like they never alter their look from film to film (Alec Baldwin would be a perfect example). Take Johnny Depp. I may not care for him in his personal life but, dammit, he looks different in every freaking role he plays. I like actors who make that kind of effort.
He does look different in every role and makes the effort, but I think J Depp is very over rated. He just comes across like a greasy little black haired slime ball to me. I really liked him in Pirates of the Caribbean, but greasy slime ball fit in with his character.
I don't see what being a greaseball or whatever has to do with a person's acting ability. If an actor is popular, it's usually because he or she is a good actor and people enjoy watching their movies.
I find Matthew McConaughey a bit annoying. His Lincoln car commercials are so stupid. Lol. I saw a funny skit by Ellen Degeneres on his car commercials. Watch at 3 minutes.
George Clooney and Brad Pitt..both actors are awful..the play the same character in every film..they have zero talent..
Here it is. I think I made an error linking it the first time.
Brad Pitt has actually played a bunch of different types of roles. From Kalifornia to Seven. He also did Fight Club and Inglorious Bastards. He has a pretty good range if you bother to watch his movies.
Definitely agree on Bradley Cooper and Sean Penn. Definitely disagree on Leonardo DiCaprio. Amazing actor. Even in this (*)(*)(*)(*)ty movie, this scene almost can redeem it: He sliced his hand up pretty well in this scene on accident, and still finished the scene.
