The prime minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, has ramped up his populist rhetoric ahead of April elections to claim that “dark clouds are gathering” and that his country is a last bastion in the fight against the “Islamisation” of Europe.
In his annual state of the nation speech, Orbán, who already appears set to win a third consecutive four-year term, made what are now familiar claims about his success in beating back threats to Hungary’s way of life from “Brussels, Berlin and Paris politicians”.
“We sent the muzzle back to Brussels and the leash back to the IMF,” he said early in his address on Sunday, praising the strength of the country’s economy.
The part of his speech which inevitably alighted on the threat of immigration will particularly concern Orbán’s many critics home and abroad.
He claimed the west had “opened the way for the decline of Christian culture and … Islamic expansion” while his administration had “prevented the Islamic world from flooding us from the south”.
Deploying a host of questionable statistics and apocalyptic visions, Orbán said: “We are those who think that Europe’s last hope is Christianity … If hundreds of millions of young people are allowed to move north, there will be enormous pressure on Europe. If all this continues, in the big cities of Europe there will be a Muslim majority.”
He said immigration was no more helpful for a country’s national development than influenza contributed to a human body’s health.

Lately If you visited London or Paris , you will agree with Mr. Orban.

Hungary was conquered by the Ottoman Empire which may explain such values.

Did not know that, thank you for pointing it out.

I happen to travel/live in this parts of Europe and indeed there is some 'folklore' dislike, but this is just PR coming from Orban.
And saying Hungary is the last bastion?.. 99% of all eastern Europe is caucasian/white(but very diverse ethnically), while west EU is on the other side of the spectrum: good luck finding a white british in most areas of London!

I have met some Turkish speaking areas in the east, which is bizarre considering they most likely been there since hundreds of years but have not integrated?

I don't have a thing with turks, but hell do they stink, always wondered why they have a distinct odor. Maybe that's why they didn't mixed in all this time.

The Ottoman Empire conquered Hungary after the Battle Of Mohocs in 1526 and ruled it until about 1687. Their rule was not wonderful generally speaking.

while west EU is on the other side of the spectrum: good luck finding a white british in most areas of London!

I thought this was the case, but had no data. It is why I find it strange that people argue gun violence is due to immigration in the US as if this had not occurred in Western Europe. Immigration that is.

I suspect most Turks are recent immigrants. There were many Muslims in the region before 1918 as result of favorable policies towards Muslims in the Ottoman era. Interestingly they lived largely in urban areas which is why many of the killings of Muslims in the 90's took place there.

try looking at a dating site. Modify your search to those under 27 and include the entire surrounding area, not just the city itself
I think people will be very shocked

I remember reading one news story, the woman described her rapist as smelling like stinky onions that made her stomach churn
    just awful

Viktor Orban is controlled by Moscow and being anti-EU, anti-US and anti-migrant help Putin's cause to destroy or weaken the EU from within. You cannot put the blame on these puppets of the Kremlin, who are just furthering Russia's cause.

That's rich. If the Russies wanted Europe weakened/destroyed you'd think they'd leave things as they be and sit waiting on the sidelines

No, he's not. The fact is that the EU is likely to fail with or without Russian interference. Indeed, Russian interference is likely to be a negligible factor, at least directly.

What the Russians have done is reminded the Europeans that they haven't escaped history. This is a lesson the Europeans are going to learn the hard way. In the last two decades the Europeans have learned two harsh lessons: First, the Russians, like Americans, don't have the same aversion to military action as their European brethren. Second, the Germans, when push comes to shove, are out for German interests, not European interests.

The result, central Europe will finally reawaken after 250 years of foreign domination by Germans, Russians, and Turks. Orban and the right-wingers who have risen to power in Poland and Ukraine are part of this process.
