What has facilitated this is two things. Abbas being a real bastard to Gaza, supporting the cutting off of gas and so on because they want to be in control of Gaza and Abbas refusing to be a traitor. He was offered a mass of money to his personal account if he would get the Palestinians to accept the 'deal of the century' apart from Gaza basically Israel gets almost all of what was to be the Palestinian State. They get left with a few bantustans. They will be forever without the right of self direction and in time Israel will kill them or get them to leave some other way. They think though the West Bank can go on as it is for quite some time. It is not much of a problem for Israel to keep these people prisoners without rights for all their lives. Because Abbas will not betray the Palestinians at the last hour Abbas himself is to be betrayed by both Israel and the United States who have been using him until a time came when the US would say to hell with International Law and let Israel do this.

I do understand just how tempting this must be to the people of Gaza but hope they are able to say no to crumbs of biscuits they have been offered after the flour has been stolen.

We're talking about Gaza Strip, the land ruled over by Hamas. We aren't talking about West Bank where settlers are moving in and taking over the land.

And the lands of the Palestinians was a colony, not an independent state, until the end of WW2. There is no claim to the land in a historic sense. It was a new world shaped by the forces of the post WW2 world.

And the Arabs of the time went to war against Israel to beat them and take their land, but the Arabs lost to the Israelis, and Israel gained more land to create a buffer zone for their own defense.

They faced a lot of opposition - basically from the US since Carter....or I'll try to put that better. Carter was the last American President to try and work to get the Palestinians some rights. They want all that land owned by 'Jews' as well as all Jews in that land.

Yes and no. When they were ruled by the Ottomans they largely self ruled in their towns and cities. During WWW they were promised by the Brits that if they were prepared to die defeating the Ottomans, they would get Self Rule of a large area including Palestine. Unfortunately it looked like the Brits were going to lose WW1 so they made the promise of a Jewish homeland believing that would bring the US in. The only promise the Brits kept was their promise to the Zionists.

The Palestinians are the people whose roots are there. Genetic Research suggests most of them have links to ancient Jews. It is their homeland and nothing will ever take that away. The arabs came in after 300,000-400,000 people had been expelled and many massacres had happened. 80% of the people of Gaza are either born in Israel or are the descendants of those born in Israel just behind the fence. Legally they still have a right to return to their homes (which of course Israel has destroyed). They did not fight. Likely they did not even know there was fighting going on as they were working their fields or having tea when the Zionists came, forced them out and over the border to Gaza. There is a tape of a Jew who was involved with this saying this. Many had consciences.

Now a deal had already been done that Jordan was going to take the West Bank but the other arab countries were being demanded by their people to go in and save the Palestinians which they eventually decided to do in a half hearted way. Apart from Jordan they had poor armies. They also had far fewer men that the Israelis. Word has it they never intended going further than the land that was going to be part of the Palestinian State and as Israel ended up with over half of what was to be the Palestinian State it ought to be a bit obvious who the aggressor was. Of course in 67 Israel took the rest of the land which was to have been the Palestinian State. On that occasion another I think around 400,000 Palestinians were ethnically cleansed.
