Looking at present events, I can see how the Russian ethnics in eastern Ukraine felt oppressed and rose against the Ukraine government. Now assisted by their Russian citizen brethren.

Looking back in Texas history, recall that the American ethnic group in then northern Mexico felt oppressed, due to Mexico clamping down on their language, Protestant religion and their illegal use of slaves. The Texans rose up, and were also assisted by their American kin from across the border, such as Davy Crockett.

Today, we look back at those rebels of Texas as heroes, and consider those slain at the Alamo to be like martyrs. But, we don't see the rebels of Donetsk in the same light.

It all seems to show that history is written by the victors.
