Parliamentary elections in Moldova is set to happen on February 24th. Three political forces are expected. A clear favorite of the upcoming event is the opposition Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova, focused on restoring close cooperation with partners. A clear favorite of the upcoming elections is the opposition Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova, focused on the restoration of close cooperation with Russia. Another opponent of the ruling regime - the right-wing "ACUM" - is actively used by the West. According to political analysts, while it's in power, "Democratic Party of Moldova" (headed by oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc) can also get representation in the new parliament.

According to surveys, including those conducted by the American International Republican Institute (IRI), the ruling regime is not pleasant to its own people. Moreover, it does not suit either the West or Moscow. The main reasons are prosperous corruption and degrading democracy.

It would seem that the regime is doomed. However, the Moldovan policy has its own peculiarities, one might even say miracles. One of them is the "Șor Party". It can be called the new hope of Plakhotnyuk, designed to repeat the effect of "Our Party" - the favorite of the 2014 parliamentary campaign, which was banned shortly before the elections.

The leader of the Shor Party, Ilan Shor, is well known even outside Moldova. A rich businessman with strong ties in Russia and Israel. However, according to a video published by Renato Usatii, the founder of Our Party, Shor's personal entry to the Russian Federation has been banned since as early as January 2015 lasting for at least six years. Some expect a ban on entry could be imposed for quite a damage to a number of Russian banks as a result of financial fraud. Probably, the Russian decision regarding Shor became decisive to his future fate in Moldova.

In summer of 2017 a Chisinau court sentenced him to 7.5 years in prison for financial fraud. As the media have repeatedly reported, the scam in which he participated was so huge that it was noted as a “crime of the century” in the republic, and the prosecutor even demanded 19 years in prison for Shor. Recall that in the fall of 2014, on the eve of the parliamentary elections, $1 billion had been withdrawn out of three Moldovan banks, - an amount equivalent (at that time) to 12% of GDP of the entire republic. It took the fraudsters only a few days to steal the money. During those three days banks, according to the financial merry-go-round principle, credited the companies controlled by Shor himself. After that funds were withdrawn to the Latvian bank accounts of UK and Hong Kong companies. During this fraud time, all banks were associated with a businessman: he served as chairman of the board of directors of Banca de Economii, and also was a shareholder of Bansa Sociala and Unibank. Moreover, as the independent company Kroll (hired by the National Bank of Moldova to investigate the fraud) found out, even the collector’s car, which carried the Bansa de Economii documents and which was later found burnt, belonged to the security agency Klassika Force also belonging to Ilan Shor.

As a result, the republic’s budget suffered enormous damage, since the National Bank had to plug the financial hole. Ilan Shor was detained on June 2016 under suspicion of fraud and money laundering, and in August was put behind bars for “abusing his official position while managing a bank”. Shor, however, collaborated with the investigation. In fact, former Moldovan prime minister Vladimir Filat was arrested and later sentenced to nine years in prison after Shor's testimony.

Shore himself has so far managed to be getting away from carried out sentence. Businessman's advocates have filed an appeal, but according to public sources, this has not been done so far. As one might expect, the case is delayed on purpose. But Shor isn't just left free. Back in 2015 he even became mayor of the city of Orhei, and is actively involved in political activities as well as heading a party named after himself.

During today parliamentary election campaign, Shor apparently copies Renato Usatii of 2014. It plays out not the best way though. Nevertheless, the ratings of the party are creeping up to the cherished six percent barrier, and even in single-mandate districts its activity is quite high. So, probably, the hope of Plakhotnyuk is being justified.

"Moldova" is a fake creation by the Russkis, it should really belong to Romania, it's real roots.....Bessarabia as it was once called, and a province of Romania. It was annexed by Moskva, and you have this sort of garbage now.....it's a poor entity, and used by the Russians for drug smuggling and money laundering......much like another fantasy creation what is "trans dnistra"!

Yes, Moldova needs to go back to Romania. All Russians need to go home or Siberia.
