Pennsylvania gay marriage ban struck down-

PHILADELPHIA — Pennsylvania's ban on gay marriage has been overturned by a federal judge in a decision that makes same-sex matrimony legal throughout the Northeast.

U.S. District Judge John E. Jones III's decision Tuesday is a victory for 11 couples, a widow and one of the couples' two teenage daughters who filed the first challenge to the law. Gov. Tom Corbett's office had defended the law after Attorney General Kathleen Kane called it unconstitutional and refused to defend it.

Pennsylvania was the last remaining state in the Northeast to outlaw gay marriage.

I found that last line interesting. "The last state in the Northeast to outlaw gay marriage."

Analogous to when the Allies finally kicked the Germans out of France in 1944. Eventually, the march will be into the "heartland" of those antipathetic to gay rights...we've already seen that these past few weeks.....Idaho, Alabama.

When a whole REGION of the country goes for marriage equality, it will be interesting to see what the US Supreme Court...even its rightwing Justices....can say to deny it nation-wide?

Yes, an amazing achievement, a tsunami is sweeping Across America. Gays can now have what they could not have before - they have a piece of paper, which says, they're normal.

 

And tax benefits. This isn't so much of a civil rights fight as it is a cash grab.

Nope- just says same sex couples get treated equally under the law. There is no psychiatric statement on a marriage license.

 

If there was...it would be proven invalid....after the FOURTH one that Rush Limbaugh obtained.

 

Civil unions have same or almost the same tax benefits.

 

As if the racism analogy wasn't bad enough... and if a judge has to strike down laws, it's the judge who has gone against the region's wishes.

Would it be OK with you if gay unions were getting exactly the same tax treatment in the eyes of law and were called civil unions instead of marriage? I say not.

"Separate but equal"...we tried that too, Dutch, after Plessy v. Ferguson

 

Gays can get the same rights through civil unions in most places, so the only "separate" part is in the language used. It will never be just a "marriage" it will always be a "gay marriage."

Except gay blacks, of course. They've been there before. It's the hated "liberals" who want EQUAL rights for all. Blacks and gays just want THEIR rights, and they don't tend to abstract this to the idea of rights generally. We know plenty of blacks who fought for equal rights for themselves, fighting against equal rights for gays. Especially black pastors, who worship probably the most hypocritical god ever invented.

 

And pay no attention to the fact that there isn't the slightest indication of any such thing anywhere. The "smear by association" is a technique bigots find irresistable.
