On a visit to Poland, Pope Francis has said that "the world is at war" but "religion is not the cause.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-36902882

I beg to differ, Your Holiness. This war has everything to do with religion and belief in God, Heaven and Hell. Until we can rid the world of this outdated concepts this "war" will continue.

A quite unusually stupid comment by the pope. I guess history is not his strong suit. He might also be pandering a bit to the extreme Catholics ie. the Poles.

Weird. It seems BBC misquoted the pope. In the Italian article he also says that people are fighting for dominance over people.

    http://www.repubblica.it/vaticano/2...ra_ma_non_di_religione_-144915775/?ref=HREA-1

The Italian article has a bit more context and more of his words on the matter. Puts him in a bit better light than the BBC article.

Never trust Protestants when talking about Catholics aye?

Pope misunderstands... the world has never truly ever been at peace. It is human nature to fight.

Oh, isn't that what Karl Marx tried to do? Hmmm, now how many millions died because of his beliefs, was it one or two hundred millions?

I think what he means is that the whole world is at war. We are in WWIII, it just hasn't reached us yet. ...but it will. It started with our support of the terrorists in Syria in 2012, and eventually it will go nuclear. So much for the US being the guaranteer of peace rather than instigating war. Let's just hope it stays limited in its scope, but I doubt it.

I believe that to be the gawdawful truth. The only peacemaker and peacekeeper this world has ever know has been the large-yield nuclear weapon.

There is no World War, there are regional conflicts at best. US has never been a procter of peace, our job is to defend our interests as it is with you guys in Russia. Altruism in the world will only get you attacked harder.

    Concur with that.

Buncha Internet Tough Guys the lot of ya. None of you, (or me) would even last through the civilian hardships of the Great Depression and WWII, let alone survive long after the Apocalypse. How does religion cause all these wars we have now? No true religion approves of war, none that have lasted long anyway. The God we all worship is peaceful. Violent faiths of any kind are perverse, a twisted distortion brought on by corrupt politics and politicians. Conservatives, Christian or Muslim. try to corrupt everything, including religion, so as to stave off or stop the change they hate so and even resort to violence if they feel they must. We must train our children to never be conservative, to expect and even love diversity and variation of all sorts, so as to keep them from growing up uncomfortable and unprepared in the modern world where change is the only constant.

[9.29] Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.

Yes they are fighting for dominance, but it has everything to do with the religion of Islam.

The more that medical science progresses then the more we need wars or serious regional conflicts to control the global population, and the world is undeniably over-populated right now? Therefore, man's propensity to wage wars is his (our) way of giving nature a helping hand, so war has been inevitable for some years: ipso facto we shouldn't be surprised nor dismayed. Bottom line? Without wars the unstoppable procreation/populations explosion will lead eventually to even more misery for mankind than a war. If anybody's got a better idea to control the population let's hear it?

Yep ... and many millions killed people followed, because they believed in the non-religious BS of Communism and Nazi stuff too. So at least it does matter if religious or not, it must be only an idea where enough people believe in to follow at all costs.

And right this brings us the background of this current terrorist scum, because they follow their interpretation of the Koran which cause so many people life too!

You mean Saudi Arabia supported the civil war in Syria. The US did nothing which is why it got out of hand. A no-fly zone would have seen the Syrian people kick Assad on his assad. Instead they let Assad's military slaughter the Syrian people and allow the IS to grow in the north.

That would be your opinion. Fortunately, millions of use informed folk do not agree. Obama is solely responsible for exacerbating an already tragically volatile situation into a blood bath of innocents, just so his good friends in the industrial military complex could enjoy greater profits.

everything is a religion, various '-isms' and societal welfare concepts can be used for hatred no less than beliefs in deity can... so the Pope is right; better curb those corporate interests hiring terrorists to intimidate the rivals under cover of Islamism.

Suppose I'll have to ask yet again - have you any proof of this 'Assad's military slaughter of the Syrian people'?

The war started in 2001 with the US as the belligerent. It escalated in 2012 and again when Russia joined the fight. Once the new POTUS is in place you can expect the state sponsored terrorism to hit America again. This time sparking the media to call it what it is "WWIII". Also taking away the last line of defense of our civil liberties "the privilege to possess fire arms".

Maybe the only consolation is that there won't be anything left for IS to get their mitts on.** I've been saying that 'their timing (of the global jihad) is impeccable' - I'd better review that and say 'I think they left it too late, and they should've started it a couple of centuries ago.' Every cloud has a silver lining? [IMG]

    ** Caliphate? What 'Caliphate'?
