It seems some people responsibly realize the police can't be sent into riots, be assaulted, and then have wimpy local prosecutors not charge the rioters with anything. This changes all that.

I'm hoping the fear of not being protected by members of the local government along with stiff federal penalties will end the violence once and for all, especially the violence towards the police.

I dunno. I'm less about crime and punishment and more about deterrent on this issue. I just don't see this deterring anyone who's dead set on assaulting a cop.

    We'll see.

I actually think this could be a deterrent to the people who think they can get away with rioting, looting and arson because the local politicians turn a blind eye to it. Once a few people get nailed with federal charges it just might cause some people to wake up.

Maybe. If word gets out and they know what they're up against, some might think twice.
