So, if that happens, does Pence then select a running mate and the election continues? Or, does it get postponed and we start over? I'm hoping the POTUS and everyone recover well so this won't be a factor.

 

The Chair Woman of the RNC Ronna McDaniel has also tested positive for Covid.

In the meantime, he has now proven beyond any doubt that he is the dumbest POTUS ever! For months, he knowingly and enthousiastically risked the health and life of hundreds of his OWN (stupid) supporters by encouraging them not to wear a mask at his rallies; 2 days ago he mocked Biden for wearing (in Trump's elegant style) the "largest mask I have ever seen"; and now his administration has demonstrated to the whole world its total incompetence by not being able to effectively protect the most protected individual on earth!

 

My grandmother used to say "You can run to anywhere in the world, but you cannot run from yourself.". Trump made the choice to not wear a mask and couldn't socially distance because of his job and the campaign. We all witnessed this. He cannot run from himself (his own choices).

He only is nominated if he gets nominated. Republican party could still refuse to nominate him if Trump dies, but he would be acting president until the election at least.

It's unclear whether or not a vice president candidate can just take over the ballot if a nominee dies during the election it's never happened before. The party might have to nominate him as a replacement candidate, or he might not be able to run it off since he never actually filed as a candidate in the deadline is well past.

 

Just put in a bit more research and looks like I was mistaken. Both parties have contingencies that differ a little bit, but essentially the GOC/DNC pick a new candidate. No new elections (primaries) are held.

All that said, I can’t imagine the GOP not putting forward Pence based on name recognition alone.

I don’t think much of the GOC, but I think they’d be smart enough not to fill the seat with one of his kids. That family is cancerous for the party. The only reason those rats haven’t jumped ship yet is because they need Trump to win to hold their grasp on power.

To think, of all things, that within 24 hours, that Nancy Pelosi's chances of becoming president just went up is mind-boggling and cosmically comical.

 

People are/were speculating that Trump would NOT give up his seat if Biden is elected. I can imagine him contesting the results, but not physically standing his ground refusing to move out of the WH. He won't have a choice if his case of C-19 is one of the aggressive ones.

And, yes, absolutely agree that we are in uncharted Constitutional waters. The whole face of the Election Board will be forever changed by this debacle.
