So you are a doctor now too? I had it in Dec and I also tested positive for the antibodies, so what's your professional take on that Doctor?

Yeah - and I was responding to someone who claimed it went through West Coast USA in November / December 2019.

Sigh... this rebreathing theory is utterly ridiculous, sorry. The percentage of virus that you breath back in is a tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny percentage of the BILLIONS that are already circulating in your system, and you don't heal yourself by breathing out viruses. You do it by developing antibodies and by activating your cell immunity with cytotoxic T cells killing the infected cells and antibodies neutralizing the virus, both the large spectrum but less specific interferon that your body makes, and the more specific IgM (faster) and IgG (subsequent).

Wearing a mask does NOT make you sicker.

The infectiousness of this virus is high but it is not projected to get 80%+ of the population as you are mentioning. Before that, it would be likely that herd immunity would kick in. But the issue is, with 10% of people at least showing up with long-term consequences of this illness even though they are likely to survive the acute phase, it is much better to be prudent now and wait for the vaccines.

I understand your fears of the vaccines but they are not reasonable. As long as the vaccines pass phase 3 of the trials with flying colors (may not be the case for the Oxford/AstraZeneca but may be the case for the Moderna, Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson, and Novavax one, which so far have not shown severe reactions), they will be safe.

I don't know of evidence of that in the US but what I do know is that a sewage water sample collected in late November 2019 and preserved at the Fiocruz Institute in Brazil for other purposes, was then tested for the SARS-CoV-2 and the virus was found. So it was circulating in Brazil in late November, much before there was awareness of it in Wuhan. This virus obviously jumped species silently and was around a bit earlier than what we initially understood. I don't know of a similar event in the US West Coast but wouldn't be surprised given that both Brazil and the US receive a lot of Chinese travelers.

There was also a woman who died in the United States, I don't remember when, early January? of what was thought to be the flu. Posterior testing showed that she had actually died of Covid-19, thus becoming the earliest known US death by Covid-19. I don't remember the details, would have to google to try to find the reference.

OK, found it, it was in early February:

    https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-per...rst-us-covid-19-death-occurred-early-february

February 6. Death occurs 2 to 5 weeks after initial infection so this woman may have contracted the virus at some point in early to mid-January.

This is the part that blows me away.. People actually believe they can hide from the virus and they will be the lucky ones that will not contract it :)

Or it could have originated in Brazil, or west coast USA, and spread to China. As you say, there is a lot of travel between Brazil and USA and China.

It truly is not. I just hope all the die hard Trump fans take a real hard look at their irresponsible decision to not wear a mask and social distance themselves from others. And when a responsible person request someone to wear a mask and stay 6 feet away, they don't get all bent out of shape and respect people who show respect for them.

Is this thread about lying or Trump and the first lady contracting COVID-19? Christ almighty we have dozens of bullshit threads about his lies, why not take your off topic dislikes there?

The unfortunate thing is he probably spread the virus to several other people. Not even 48 hours before testing positive he was making fun of his opposition for wearing a mask too frequently. The thing to keep in mind is when you wear a mask you are not so much keeping yourself safe so much as you are protecting the people around you

While wearing a mask does help prevent one from catching the virus, studies show that when you wear a mask, your chances of spreading the virus are reduced by about 90%

You are not taking your own risk by not wearing a mask do much as you are putting the people around you at risk

It's amazing how people still don't know how to calculate percentages... I wonder what kind of education these people got; middle school dropouts???

Excellent point. Trump has been acting recklessly about this for a while, with rallies in which he relishes maskless people, berates those wearing a mask...
