Aside from the hubbub over Sweden being close to joining NATO (much ado about nothing IMO), NATO Secretary Jen Stoltenberg also addressed the situation regarding Ukraine's possible admission into NATO. Beyond the usual platitudes, he did get to the heart of the matter when he said, in response to a reporter's question, "Then I would like to add that on top of that, of course, Allies are also providing substantial military support, because the most urgent task now is to ensure that Ukraine prevails, because unless Ukraine prevails, there is no membership issue to be discussed at all.".

So right there he lays it out for all to see. Ukraine must prevail, or no NATO for Ukraine. There is no qualifier such as "Ukraine must prevail, or reach a diplomatic solution" or anything of the kind. So, it's sure, you can be in NATO. All you gotta do is beat Russia!!

So now the choice for Ukraine is to either defeat Russia or settle the war diplomatically and not be a member of NATO. The choice for Russia is to decisively beat Ukraine or have NATO or its doorstep and lose access to the Black Sea, along with Crimea and 4 other regions of Ukraine it has admitted into Russia proper since the war began. Zelensky has repeatedly said victory would only come when all territories had been reclaimed.

So, what's next? I've a feeling Russia was waiting to see what would happen at Vilnius. Now it knows.

Russia isn't "decisively" beating Ukraine.....that chance came and went back in March/April 2022....

All of Ukraine defense industry is getting fully integrated to NATO standards....as it's military.

Now Russia knows.....how is it going to keep itself from imploding .....woogs.

 

Before Russia invaded...Germany and the EU were happy trading with them and Poland and Sweden were content staying neutral and Ukraine's NATO membership was a no go.

Explain how the Baltic Sea will be a no go for Russia. What?? Are Sweden and Finland going to attack Russia?

Last I checked, Finland wasn't slaughtering ethnic Russians so why should Russia care? Did Finland suddenly grow bigger balls after being admitted into NATO? Somehow I just don't see the Finns as being the same as the mouth-breathing cretins in Ukraine.

As for Ukraine's defense industry and military ..... Ukraine has no defense industry at this time. It is a total beggar nation. As for its military, they are kicking old corpses out of their graves to make room for Ukraine's military.

As for Finland and Sweden, they both have 24,000 active military each. That's 48,000 total. Scary stuff!

Smart of you to drop the talk about Finland and Sweden being such a threat. 48,000 troops spread across 2 countries is nothing to get all puffed up about.

Now maybe you could stop mainlining copium and take a dose of reality regarding Ukraine itself. The maps, even those shown used by pro-Ukrainians, tell the tale. Russia already controls most of the best parts of Ukraine and is not going to give it up. It's a certainty that Russia will be taking more territory. There's even talk in the West of reconstituting a modern version of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth so that part of Ukraine can be salvaged.
