Because of this, people avoid getting close to a child's face, at least in Western cultures. Considering this, I'm sure the boys mother was much happier that he was being kissed on the tummy and not his face. I imagine Putin was holding back the urge to grab and hug him.
Holding babies in arms maybe but this boy looked about five and.part of his clothing was removed for him to be intimately treated by someone he does not know. I saw this before in TV and i dont know. It looks disturbing for me. Its also totally alien in our culture here. I dont know if this is tradition in russia...but i know for sure that certainly nobody in my family or people around me ever lift my shirt up when i was a kid and kissed my belly. How many politicians kiss babies. Most have a hard time getting the infant to stay in their arms and no one approves of that. But these are infants and they scream to get down when they want. They have not, unlike the child Putin was with, been forced to tolerate it. I wasn't able to see the video before was just basing on the pictures. Having see the video it most certainly is abuse of the 5 year old. It is quite clear he is uncomfortable. My previous question was whether this was the norm in Russia - for strangers to lift up the shirt of 5 year olds and kiss their tummy and my feeling was that this is an intrusion into the child's right of privacy - an intrusion into their right to be in control of their own bodies. I am a mother and a grandmother. I believe strongly in a child feeling it has the right over it's own body and who can or cannot touch it.
