Qadaffi banked and invested, supposedly on behalf of Libya, between $150 and $200 billion dollars US. Given all the things that could have been done in Libya with even half that money, that makes it pretty obvious that he didn't have the best welfare of his citizens in mind when he made those decisions.

As for corruption to the benefit of the Qaddafi family, look at this Wikileak:

The Libyans are quite poor... with a per capita income that is half that of KSA which also provides free education and healthcare as well as money for housing and business development. Khadafi gave the people just enough, but failed to invest in infrastructure.

One of the issues surrounding Khadafi is that he changed the laws constantly and was too paranoid to permit the development of functioning institutions..

I do NOT believe that Gaddafi could have done - all he's accused to have done - ON HIS OWN .

It stands to reason that he must have had considerable amount of willing helpers from those Libyans who believed in him .

I am a socialist, something Gaddafi claimed to be. I also opposed the intervention.

You believed him. Sucker, you have been conned.
