Anyone know how you would go about grinding highly enriched uranium pellets into fine powder? I'm thinking a cheese grater won't do the job... (Note to DHS: This is for my second novel which is now at page 433 and almost completed!)
Get a good grinding rock...and make sure it is ground properly. To do this... snort a little up your nose every now and then. If it gives you a rush...its ready.
In many ways yes. But its for some of the hardest metals in the world. A company I use to inspect had it. The way it worked was the metal was flashed frozen at hundreds of degrees below zero. That made the metal brittle. Then it was fed threw the machine wear it began to crush it. The process was done over and over. The end product I saw was the consistency of grains of salt. This was a recycling plant for exotic metals.
Without access to that...freeze it with liquid nitrogen, then pulverize with something. What would depend on how much you need.

Uranium is a very dense metal. The way I shaw it,I don't think a hammer will work. The one I saw was similar to the one in the video. The one in the video is crushing motor blocks which is a very soft metal. http://youtu.be/9JUBBEhrvfc

It looks like you really wouldnt get a batch of uranium pellets but mined ores with a small % of uranium content. http://www.slate.com/id/2085848/ seems very informative.
