Random Board Help Questions

I wonder if anyone here came across solutions for these:

1. How to create/add custom (user) smilies/emoji

2. How long does an account remain in new user status before one can private message

 

No idea about the second one. You should be able to PM unless your privileges were taken away for some abuse.

As for emojis my guess is you will need to post them as pictures/attachments

 

How come you don't know the answers when you've made more than 3k posts?

 

I don't know. I wasn't thinking about the features then. I would like to use them now though.

Can anyone please tell me how I can retrieve posts which I lose because of the server being too busy? If membership keeps increasing at its present rate the server could be too busy more often and it's bloody frustrating to keep re-typing lost stuff. I'll probably lose this now . . .

 

This works sometimes: Hit the back button and see if the post is still there.

This happened to me a few times, so now when I have longer posts, I copy it before submitting and previewing. It'll remain on your clipboard even if the board loses it.

 

Pretty much but my short smartassery is easily substituteable pretty easily with new smartassery I did have that happen one time with a very lengthy post after which I was, oh just screw it.

 

^^^ This. It happens a LOT where the server is "too busy." This is a pretty good forum, but technology wise it seems a bit behind other forums.

Nah, many people don't know these things because the clipboard is basically a part of your device's memory, not really an upfront app. It's accessed behind the scenes whenever you copy or paste stuff.

On my phone and tablet there is a gear button I hold down on the keypad. When I hold it, the clipboard shows and I can access plenty of things still on the clipboard. On my desktop computer (Windows), I can access what I last copied by just pasting.

 

You can do the same thing with a word processing program. Just highlight the text and hit control-C to cut it and then control-V to paste it (in windows).

 

I think it is generally an issue with server bandwidth and getting it paid for not so much the technology of the board

 

Could be. All I know is a lot of times when I try to log on, it gives me a busy signal.

 

(and to DarkSkies) I know how to C&P - it's about the only thing I do know, but I was referring to retrieving something I posted during one of the server downtime periods.

 

You need to be a board admin to add your own smilies and emoji by going to the admin control panel. I don't think ordinary members can do anything about it. Probably you cannot send private messages to some members because they don't accept private messages. I blocked all private messages after receiving creepy messages. I remeber that I could send private messages soon after I could post without getting approved.

 

Update:

My PM issue got resolved. An Administrator helped clear a conflict with my settings.

To add emoji or smiley, I'll accept what ThirdTerm said about it and use a workaround.

 

Sometimes a 'Restore Auto-Saved Content' button shows up on the bottom of the quote box. To get it to show, open another tab, window, or browser and quote the same person you were quoting before you lost the message. If you were just replying to thread, you can just hit the 'Reply to thread' button.

This only works sometimes though. Since it doesn't work all the time, I just copy my text before submitting and previewing so I have it to paste elsewhere when server gets busy.
