This Europe would be a better place? No kidding. How can it be, especially for you? The joker has forgotten to restore your extinct Grand Duchy empire in its rightful place in his map of fantasy.

If Economist is smarter than God, there already exists a smarter Economist.

You really have a sense of humour. A look at the real and imaginary maps of Europe shows that your people would be dumped on a nonexistent island; in other words, into the Atlantic Ocean.

One good thing for you in the "New Europe" is no more liquor but seawater.

Well, you can spend all your time swimming in search of the lost continent of Atlantis instead of your extinct Grand Duchy empire.

It was a very light-hearted article (the tongue-in-cheek references to Ruritania and Vulgaria should give that away if nothting else), yet it made some interesting points about some of the nations that got moved around on the fictional map. Nice way to slip the pill of a few bitter truths - with a big dose of comedy!
