I think pretty much every religion has it's reason for why the universe came into existence. It's a logical question to ask. It is true that an increasing number of the religious are willing to accept science. But, there is still a huge gulf.
What you say is very true. I do accept science, but I think there are limits to what it can understand. There can't be any repeatable/physical evidence for the existence of God, but I'm a man of faith and accept that in faith there are mysteries we may never know the answer to. I'm OK with that.

A Sufi oriented Muslim Imam I know says that everyone should have at least one alternate religion to which they adhere. He says his alternate is Buddhism. If an Imam can view it this way, so seriously considering the philosophical aspects of another faith, who the heck am I to try to convince someone there is no god? And, I really appreciate Matthew 25:31 and on to the end. Surely that is something we all need to live up to - not because some god may send me to hell, but because it is ... right. I'll still defend science, of course.

Funny how many people have been conceived and born over the ages without the endorsement of science. Likewise America, whose birth was based not on science, but on the self evident truth that one creator begat us all and is the essence of our equality and rights in freedom. Were science employed at the time, America would never have come to be. Even today, centuries later, science mills about, loitering at the notion of the incomprehensible.
Oh contraire! Science has been an invaluable part of America's history since it's infancy. Many of the nation's founding fathers were community scientists.George Washington, Benjamin Franklin,Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and James Madison were all avid students of the natural and physical world. Science has made America a great country regardless of the fact that the majority of Americans are scientifically illiterate.
"Self evident" of course means no proof or evidence of claims. People need to believe to mentally function. They have no proof. So God (magic invisible being in the sky) becomes self evident. If "self evident" is proof -- then it is self evident to me there is no magic man in the sky. There it is. I have "proved" God does not exist. Not sure if "science mills about..." is a strawman fallacy or a stealth argument from ignorance fallacy, e.g., science doesn't know, ergo God. Not sure what people being "conceived without an endorsement of science", "birth not based on science" is supposed to mean. Both science and common sense understand birth comes from sex. It is only religion that thinks birth comes from no sex and no penetration, i.e., Jesus. What makes the assertion about the virgin birth of Jesus even more absurd is that Mary had additional children after Jesus yet the Catholic church claimed she remained a virgin. Guess Joseph was doomed to a life of masturbation or being celibate. An interesting discussion would be - was Joseph cucked by God? BTW, science does not endorse things. It develops theories and when these theories can be demonstrated by empirical evidence they become accepted theories. But still subject to change based on evidence. So what does "endorsed by science" mean according to you?

I don't think you understand science. The default position of science is not to resort to anything and simply say we do not know.
Because we don't know doesn't mean God did it. That is an argument from ignorance fallacy. Why do you claim there can't be any repeatable/physical evidence for God? What prevents God from making a physical appearance in modern times? He created the Universe yet can not (for example) show up for a modern day appearance?

I don’t think God operates on your schedule. If you’re lucky God will make Himself known to you in His way on His terms.
He hasn’t stopped. Many people have personal experiences with God. Many people are called by God to be in service to others, many in mission to be instruments of His love in the world.
