Why didn’t republicans cut spending then for the 2 years they owned congress and the whitehouse? Republicans outspend and drive up the debt more than dems by orders of magnitude.

 

Not if income goes up, which it did. You are assuming cutting taxes has no effect on the economy.. However, when taxes are cut, people have more money to spend and they spend at least part of it. That puts more money back into circulation which increases income.

The republicans increased defense spending to get the armed forces back up to strength However, the republicans did not cut spending as much as they should have. We need to cut our deficit whether we are talking republican or democrat.

 

Yes, this is the conservative voodoo theory regarding tax cuts. Problem is, we have 40 years of data showing this never happens. All that happens is the deficit and debt EXPLODES.

Defense spending needs cut by 50%-75%. We need to switch to a single payer healthcare system. Just doing those 2 things would boost the economy by orders of magnitude.

 

Income went up under the Reagan tax cut and they went up under the Trump tax cut. Problem is that in both cases, spending went up even more.

They went up under Reagan because of the tech boom. They did not go up under trump. Tariffs are what increased revenues.

Republicans slash revenue and ramp up spending. It’s total fiscal incompetence.

We spend almost double what the next 10 countries spend on “defense”. We could cut ours in half and still outspend every other nation on earth.

 

Because we overpay for EVERYTHING the Defense Department ever purchases by at least 50% and in many cases as much as !00%.And much of what they buy is useless trash.

 

You denied that the income went up with tax cuts. However when they do go up, you say it was due to a different reason. Make up your mind. The tax revenue in 2018 came in before the tariffs brought in any additional income.

However, if you look at the strength of the US military versus the Russians and China, they are about comparable. The cost of their equipment is less because they pay their defense contractor workers less and they pay their military less. If we bought Chinese equipment and paid our military the same as the Chinese, we could have the same military at much less cost.

The increase in tariff income started in September 2018. The fiscal year for 2018 ended in September 2018.

Not when you are facing them in battle.
They have twice as many fighter aircraft and tanks and more ships. Then we throw Russia into the mix and China and Russia dwarf us.

By the way, as a retired military, I don't want to be be just as good as our enemy. I want to be a lot better.

 

Americans have short memories. Because of that the economy has to crash every 20-30 years. Reagan bought into the Lafer Curve and cut taxes promising a big payback. The payoff was 5 trillion dollar increase in the National Debt. Bush couldn't stand the idea the Clinton created a budget surplus. He just HAD to give money back to the people. He knew the Lafer Curve was right so he cut taxes promising a big payoff in revenue. Attaboy, Bush added another 6 trillion to the National Debt. Happy birthday Obama. Heres an 11 Trillion dollar national debt for you. Oh, BTW, it's a shame what I did to the economy. Sorry 'bout that. Sorry about the trillion dollar annual budget shortfall too. Maybe you should cut taxes.

Obama whittled the annual budget shortfall to under 500 billion. It took eight years with the GOP blocking every move. So what does our "Stable Genius" do? Cuts taxes of course. Trump, (Stable Genius) shoved the shortfall right up to the magic Trillion dollar number. One thing was different though, Trump couldn't care less about deficits. Now that he's prez, he can make some real dough. His tax cut put millions into Fat a***s bulging pockets. Get one thing straight about Republicans, suckers - they don't give a s**t about deficits. Neither party will cut spending and some, like Stable Genius, will figure out ways to grab some honey from the pot for themselves.

We knew this would happen. Reagan tried the same nonsense with the same effects - nearly driving us into bankruptcy. This time we will not manage to avoid default - Sans some major white swan event like what saved us from the last debacle.

 

What is absurd is claiming that the debt doesn't matter - that its horrible when Blue does it but fine when Red does it. Republicans are huge spenders - since Reagan - the majority of the deficits have been under Red leadership. Red is a friggen joke with respect to fiscal responsibility. They do exactly the opposite of what they claim - not a fiscal conservative admin since and including Reagan - princesses with credit cards they are.

That's not true. My own research found that the biggest deficits happened when either party had control over the whole government. When Congress and the POTUS were split, we were much better off. By party didn't matter either way in the White House or Congress. There actually isn't any real difference in where the money is spent which surprised me. There is plenty of Blue and Red Kook-Aid.
