I hate to break it to you, but as a labor force on the continent, just like here, their performance is pretty dismal.

I kind of thought Obama was going to pull this as a get out the vote measure in 2014. Sounds like he needed it.

Over the years, I've grown more sympathetic to the idea, if not the practicality of it. [MENTION=63496]Gatewood[/MENTION] made a good point though. If you think it was difficult to get such legislation through a Congress of guilty feeling whites, how would it ever fly through America's upcoming Latino majority? They have no connection to American history or the civil war, and at least based on Mexican-Americans, don't seem to like Blacks very much. That is the country that is going to support reparations? Better hurry...

As to how it should be carried out, I've figured (for those who can actually prove descendants of American slavery (sorry Jamaicans!) 50K either as a housing downpayment subsidy or college education subsidy. Those are the keys to the middle class so that's where the money should be aimed. Just cash seems a bad idea, as anyone who's seen those lotto TV shows on cable can attest.

When I ask for reparations for slavery I'm not trying to be punitive. I really do believe it would go a long way to heal the racial strife in our society if Blacks were paid reparations. There is no other group (except the Irish, and they were White so they soon blended in) that has suffered the slavery and oppression Blacks have.
The early wealth of this country was built on the foundation of slavery. America is a young country compared to countries in Europe and the Middle and Far East. There is no way America would be where it is today without the benefit of free labor.
We must correct this wrong. I hope it happens in my lifetime.

As a Sicilian why souldn't Africans be forced to pay me reparations?

The real solution is to put all progressives of any race in labor camps....

You can't honestly believe that paying anyone anything will change the relations or behavior of anybody.

 

I think reparations would help as much with racial healing in this country as the election of Obama did. But people like to dream...
